One of my kitties is Big Boy, who I think is a Maine Coon. He's big, 15+ pounds, and so shy you wanna hug him close.

Which he lets you do, desperately. Head butt, the whole deal, like a mini-battering ram.

I think he has a shattered soul.

He hides in places so tight he can barely move. I pull him out and he claws against it. But not against me. Once in hand, he burrows, desperately, into your lap. Purrs up a storm. Head-butts, like a battering ram.

I've had him for about 4 months and still no change.

I think he has bad PTSD. The way he burrows into hiding places, and won't come out. Yet, the way he so desperately burrows into your lap. Purrs, like a diesel truck. (Or maybye one of those dorky diesel cars. LOL)

A good buddy of mine gave him to me. He was a handyman, in Palos Verdes, California, and he was remodeling a house, and Big Boy was fed by the lady who lived there (who went to Florida and didn't take him with her). Coyotes are all over. Big Boy's  behavior suggests he might have survived a what might have been fatal encounter with a coyote by squeezing into a small place where he could not be reached.

Thoughts you-all?

Big Boy loves you, I'm convinced.

I recently adopted a big red Maine Coon and he acts like yours. He hides all day and I have to find him and pull him out, then I stroke and brush him and the motor goes off and he can't get enough. Hugging is not so much but will sit next to me with paws on my lap, when I quit petting he wants more, digs his head into wherever he can. This cat was given up by a lady who moved to smaller quarters and had to rehome some of her 9 cats, at least that's what I was told by the people at Petsmart where I got him a month ago. He's allegedly 8 1/2 years old and weighs a ton. I haven't had him to the vet yet to get him weighed. PTSD? We'll never know although I have a foster who would fit that description and it took him over 2 years to be even partly social.

Thanks that's helpful to know.

I've had Big Boy for a number of months and he's still shy though I was able to get the picture of him below.
