Over Thanksgiving we went to visit family. When we came back we noticed Simba limping. We looked him over. No sign of anything in his paw or anything so we were perplexed. A couple of days later we noticed he was spending all his time sleeping in the closet. We took him to the vet and she looked him over and did blood work. She said there is no absece and he doesn't seem to be hurt. All blood work looked good. She determined that he has some sort of infection and is limping because he is achy. She gave him an antibiotic shot and sent him home with pain medication. That was yesterday. Today he is still stumbling around and has slept all day. He eats and drinks, but I have to bring him the bowels. He is using the box but it looks like just pee . What more can I do for him? How long should I give meds to help him before calling the vet again?

He's eating and drinking. He could be drowsy because of the pain medication and he could be a little constipated because of the medications. I'd keep watching him.

I'd be giving him his food with a bit of water mixed in to help his medication go through him and encouraging him to drink.

I don't know what you mean by "All blood work looked good. She determined that he has some sort of infection and is limping because he is Scheherazade."  If the blood work was normal, then he shouldn't need an antibiotic because if he had an infection, the white blood cells should be elevated.

Limping because he is Scheherazade?  What does that mean?

Anyhow you said he got a shot of antibiotics, which probably means he got Convenia, and that could be the reason for the sleeping too much and the diarrhea.  That antibiotic often makes cats very listless and it kills of all the normal gut flora, or lots of it, and they should be put on a probiotic for a couple of weeks if they are given Convenia to avoid problems with digestion.  Nutri-Vet makes a Probiotics formula with wild alaskan salmon oil.  The smell nauseates me but the cats love it.

If he did get Convenia, you should look it up and learn more about it so you can help him get over the side effects.
