We did have the scratching post next to the window, but the other night, Mickey crashed it into the window and we were concerned about it breaking so we moved it to the corner of the kitchen.  Last night, we caught Murphy sitting on top of the kitchen cabinets.  Well, last summer one of the neighbors said he'd gotten roaches from something he'd bought off swap shop so we put some roach poison in various places we felt were safe from kitty interaction (an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure) and above the cabinets is one of those spots.  So, John told Murphy to get down and he used his "dad voice."  So, he did and we watched his route.  He jumped down to the fridge then halfway across the room to the scratching post.  So, now the scratching post is in the corner of the living room where the lamp used to be.  I wonder if Murphy might have a bit of flying squirrel in him - I've never seen a cat jump as far as he can.

My mom stayed with us while recovering from surgery.  When my mom first arrived at our house, she sat down in the floor to take off her shoes.  Daisy, who doesn't meet a stranger, ran up to greet her.  Daisy kept sticking her nose up in the air, expectedly, toward my mom.  My mom spoke to her and Daisy persisted.  I started to laugh.  "She wants you to touch noses with her," I told my mom.  "And you are hurting her feelings."  (If I say "give me a kiss-kiss" Daisy touches noses with me.  My mom has a cat, but she simply didn't know the proper rules of etiquette Daisy insists upon.)

I don't allow kitties in the kitchen often and Boris made a game of sneaking through the door.  He was good at it!  Every time he was successful, I told him how much smarter than me he was.  Then he would strut to his favorite spot, lie down and flip over onto his back and chirp.  I had to pay the penalty for being outsmarted.  Belly rubs!  Definitely a win-win situation!

Entry:  Otto is my crazy kitty.. He entertains himself quite a bit. One of his favorite things is to catch his own tail, while hanging upside down off his ladder..

He is quite comical to watch..

ENTRY-- To properly tell this story, I need to give a little backstory. On February 2nd, 2014, our cat Rose gave birth to five healthy kittens. This story is from between the times I was desperately socializing them with people to make them more adoptable and when I resigned myself to the fact that we'd have six cats. The other thing you have to know is that we keep a giant pickle jar by the laundry room door, so that when we find change in pockets or laundry we can just toss the stuff into the jar (we cash it in and dole it out around Christmas). This jar has been in place since we moved to this house, back in 1999. To the kittens, it had been part of of the house since since before they were born. One day, while in the living room, I heard an odd commotion and went into the kitchen (the utility room is off the kitchen) to find this:

That's Princess in the jar, by the way. (They didn't have names back then, because I didn't want to get attached to them.) So, knowing that Princess was in absolutely no  danger, I took some more pictures of them playing with the coin jar.

(I also took a video of them playing with it, but I can't find it anywhere to post it here.) It was a cute and funny moment, and one of the turning points from looking at the kittens as something that needed to be placed with someone else to creatures I wanted to share my home with. (I still conspired to take them to be fixed as soon as they were physically large enough for the operations, however. There is  too much of a good thing.)

ENTRY (hello, old friends!)

Robin yells at me to go to bed. If I don't get their fast enough, he grumps and sighs on the table behind the sofa, making sure his exaggerated flops slide something off the table. He really has matured into a comical not-quite middle aged old man.

Max learned how to play hide at seek. I would look at him, point my finger and tell him I was going to hide from him. Then I would run somewhere in the house and hide and wait. He always gave me time to hide before he started his search. He walked very pristine, with his tail held high and didn't stop searching until he found me.

He was my soul mate cat and has been gone eleven years. I miss him very much.

I have one about one of my daughter's cats. We've all seen the videos on You Tube and Facebook where the cats jump from one piece of furniture to another. Well I saw it in person. My daughter's cat, Lilu, was jumping from my chair to the couch. Now they are less than 3 feet.....3 FEET.

Needless to say... she missed....by inches!!! Honestly it was more like maybe half an inch.  It was like she stopped in mid air and just fell. It reminded me of cartoon characters, you know them, the ones that stop in mid air and falls. I never laughed so hard. She wasn't a happy cat. She just hopped up on the couch, laid down and sulked for a while. I don't even have to mention the evil eyes I got for laughing at her, but it was SOOOOOO funny.

Mickey likes to sleep on the scratching post with him face hanging over the edge.  I don't get it.  It doesn't look even slightly comfortable.  How does he keep all the blood rushing to his head?

Cricket is maybe the only cat I've every met who doesn't like blankets, especially the soft fuzzy ones.  If she absolutely has to walk over one, she does so very gingerly. I've seen her hop over them.  She will happily curl up on towels, or clothes, but forget blankets.  Swanie on the other hand has never met a blanket he wouldn't bond with View media item 391164

Boris would get a little nutty when we played with a string toy.   He would run up and down and around the cat tree, then start hopping around, starting and ending in a crouch.  Then he would attack the scratching post, biting it while rolling his eyes back to look at me, as if to say, "See how tough I am?"  Then he would continue chasing the string toy.  He kept me entertained!

This was the cat of a friend of mine.  They had three or four cats, and this was the one they all thought was slightly brain damaged.  I don't remember her name -- it's been a long time -- but, personally, I thought she was rather smart, just, um, different.

These friends had one of those self-cleaning litter boxes with a rake that would automatically rake through the litter about five minutes after it detected a cat in the box, and this cat was fascinated by it.  So she would get in the litter box and pee, just a little bit, just enough to make a small clump.  Then she'd get out of the box and wait for the rake to activate, so she could bat at the pee clump.  And once the clump was dumped in the receptacle and the rake retracted, she'd get in the box and pee again, having conveniently (or, perhaps, cleverly?) kept enough back so that she could have several goes at it.

Max would all of a sudden take off on a flying run through the house. He was long and lanky so he reminded me of a greyhound running. His run would include every room of the tiny house we lived in at the time. He would jump in and out, all in one motion it seemed, into the bathtub. I was washing out some delicates in the bathtub, with a little bit of soapy water. I heard him take off on his run and didn't think about it until he hit the tub and out again all in one motion. I don't know who was the most surprised, me or him. I then chased him through the house trying to catch him as he was leaving bubbles everywhere on my carpet. My gosh, it makes me miss him so every one of these stories I tell about him.
