Hello Everyone,

My 4 y.o. SF DSH Squish has been diagnosed with dry form FIP. I am a certified veterinary technician and also a research scientist with a degree in molecular biology. The reason I mention is I know all about FIP and mechanisms of action for multiple biologics and drug types.

Although I know there is no confirmatory test for FIP, we have ruled out almost all other possibilities. And instead of sitting around waiting for the disease to progress, I want to get a jump start on treatment.

A quick background:

-Normal up until 11/23, presented with vomiting and inappetance temp - 105.5

-11/23 preformed blood work (increased globulins increased WBC) ultrasound (suspect foreign body) radiographs (suspicious of constipation). Performed exploratory surgery and found a large mass in the jejunocolic junction and enlarged mesenteric LN. Regular vet could not do resection, closed her and took her to specialist.

-11/23-11/25 placed on IV fluids and cerenia

-11/25 performed jejunocolic resection and anastomosis. Ended up removing half of the intestinal tract as well as 2 LN as these were effected as well.

-11/28 Biopsy showed pyogranulomatous inflammation, additional stains requested for fungal or mycobacterial involvment

-12/1 - stains are all negative, FIP suspected.

-Current treatment: clindamycin to cover the off chance of toxo or salmonella, mirtazapine EOD, SC fluids 100cc SID, B12 QW x 5weeks (since entire ileum was removed)

I've read two research papers on Polyprenyl Immunostimulant  usage in cats with dry FIP and know the results by heart.  My question is, does any one have PERSONAL experience with this stimmulant? Also, If I start PI I cannot use steroids which makes me nervous since that is the typical FIP treatment course. I think I have/know all my facts pretty well, just looking for some personal experiences and stories about PI and FIP as it is no where on the web except on NCBI And other research sites (which takes the personal aspect out of it).

Thank you everyone -- sorry for being harsh, everyone keeps trying to tell me "it's not FIP" or trying to add in unfounded data they read on PetMD. I only want personal experiences OR data backed by NCBI or other ACTUAL studies that I may have missed.

Thanks again,

Megan and Squish

Hi Megan ( and Squish!) and welcome to the forum !

If I were in your position, I know that I would be posing that question to people with FIP kitties who are members of the specialized FIP online community that has been actively managing this disease for the past 15 years......lots of collective experience there and familiarity with the latest treatment breakthroughs, drug trials etc.

Just a word of advice first...I'd advise getting a new separate email addy for this group - email is their operating platform (old school) and that will help you manage the info flow from very busy community.

You'll find them here: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/FIPCatSupport/info

Now, if I were "a certified veterinary technician"......I'd also be asking on professional networking forums such as http://www.vin.com/VIN.plx?P=VetTech
....or other ACTUAL studies that I may have missed.
Well, having no idea of what you may/may not have seen/are aware of.....I'll only venture to mention that the 'latest' word on success against FIP would not appear to be on the immunostimulant front, but, rather on the suppression of the virus itself using anti-viral agents. There is an enormous amount of info available on this....here is one portal: http://www.sockfip.info/

I hope something there may be helpful......I wonder if you'd be able to add something to our FIP experiences here at TCS....?

Hello,

Thank you. I couldn't find an FIP specific forum and was just posting on numerous sites to hopefully find some info. All I've come across is data and percentages and nothing about how the cats felt or how the stimmulant tastes, if they hate it. My poor cat hates anything PO liquid or pills.

Yes I'd be happy help/add to the FIP experiences here. If anyone else is looking for advice from someone going through it I'm around and can hopefully help.

I've tried VIN, it's more of the same- no personal experience just how long the cat survived, not how happy the cat was in it's longer lifespan. I don't want to extend misery if that is what it comes to.

Thank you again for your help,
Megan
