Hello Everyone,
My 4 y.o. SF DSH Squish has been diagnosed with dry form FIP. I am a certified veterinary technician and also a research scientist with a degree in molecular biology. The reason I mention is I know all about FIP and mechanisms of action for multiple biologics and drug types.
Although I know there is no confirmatory test for FIP, we have ruled out almost all other possibilities. And instead of sitting around waiting for the disease to progress, I want to get a jump start on treatment.
A quick background:
-Normal up until 11/23, presented with vomiting and inappetance temp - 105.5
-11/23 preformed blood work (increased globulins increased WBC) ultrasound (suspect foreign body) radiographs (suspicious of constipation). Performed exploratory surgery and found a large mass in the jejunocolic junction and enlarged mesenteric LN. Regular vet could not do resection, closed her and took her to specialist.
-11/23-11/25 placed on IV fluids and cerenia
-11/25 performed jejunocolic resection and anastomosis. Ended up removing half of the intestinal tract as well as 2 LN as these were effected as well.
-11/28 Biopsy showed pyogranulomatous inflammation, additional stains requested for fungal or mycobacterial involvment
-12/1 - stains are all negative, FIP suspected.
-Current treatment: clindamycin to cover the off chance of toxo or salmonella, mirtazapine EOD, SC fluids 100cc SID, B12 QW x 5weeks (since entire ileum was removed)
I've read two research papers on Polyprenyl Immunostimulant usage in cats with dry FIP and know the results by heart. My question is, does any one have PERSONAL experience with this stimmulant? Also, If I start PI I cannot use steroids which makes me nervous since that is the typical FIP treatment course. I think I have/know all my facts pretty well, just looking for some personal experiences and stories about PI and FIP as it is no where on the web except on NCBI And other research sites (which takes the personal aspect out of it).
Thank you everyone -- sorry for being harsh, everyone keeps trying to tell me "it's not FIP" or trying to add in unfounded data they read on PetMD. I only want personal experiences OR data backed by NCBI or other ACTUAL studies that I may have missed.
Thanks again,
Megan and Squish
