Hi There,

My poor kitty Silly had dental surgery 10 days ago.

-Showed interest but refused wet food (baby food, etc), on day 2 of not eating, vet gave OK to eat dry food.

-Ate only a few kibbles of dry

-Brought him to a new vet (due to location)

-Saw new vet three times post dental surgery

-Nightmare ensued, read here  on the catsite.

-Syringe fed for about 7 days

-Got metacam, bupenorphine, mertazapine, baytril, convenia (which I did not want to give)

-Got diarrhea on 8th day

-Got blood work on 8th day, all good except now mildly anemic.

-During Day 8 checkup, thanks to catsite, I pushed vet to check sutures, he dismissed sutures would cause this...

-He then found an unravelled suture (what I think I saw was at least 1/2 inch of clear plastic poking down from top of Silly's mouth)

-He clipped suture

-He offered Silly kibble

-Silly ate kibble ravenously, and has been eating normally since.

-Nightmare likely over...but Silly still has diarrhea...is mildly anemic...and still has convenia in his system (and had so many other unecessary drugs)

-My question is: is this normal for a vet to miss?  Should I ask for a refund for all the post appointments and meds?  Or just be happy Silly is alive and move on?  I feel it is an injustice for Silly, but I can imagine how easy it would be to miss a clear string at the back of a cat's mouth...

Thank you.

Your link to the backstory actually links to this thread so here is your original thread detailing what happened;  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/330051/...foods-littermate-nonrecognition-please-advise

As for asking for a refund - I'd definitely ask for one.  It certainly can't hurt and you did get stuck with extra expenses  because of vet error.  And of course, there is the unnecessary suffering that Silly was put through.  Even though the mistake might be understandable, it's still a mistake and not your fault.  You might meet with more success if you just ask for refunds for the office visits rather than the office visits and the meds.

Sending vibes that Silly continues to recover  until he is his old self!

Thanks for fixing the link and for the advice...I think that vet is avoiding me because he had nurses discuss aftercare with me unlike before when he was calling himself...

I did realize he had only charged me the one initial time for the vet visit and it wasn't too expensive...the meds and bloodwork were more.  I should definitely have asked for a refund, but didn't have the guts when it came down to it...I mostly want to avoid that vet too at this point.

By the way, Silly is much better!

Thanks again!
