I have a kitten who was a stray, I've nursed him from near starvation & dehydration and a measly 4ox to overr 1lb. I'm guessing he's somewhere now between 7-9weeks old. for the past few days he's mewed at me when pooing, but I didn't think much of it, becuase we're having to learn what the litterbox is for, and leaving poos all over my carpet (& bed). Anyway, tonight he mewed again and I went over to move him to the litter as I usually do, but he jumped out and started dragging his bottom a little, I thought maybe he had a worm stuck or some poo I needed to clean, so I checked, and he had a bright pink prolapse that was about 1/4 inch out.
My heart sunk immediately, I lost a hamster to prolapse as a child and it was so traumatic for me. Thankfully the peek has gone back in on its own already, but clearly he has been straining. I've put him on baby food already, and plan to keep dry food out until it clears. He definitely has worms. I'd been waiting until he was healthy enough to worm, which will be this week.
He also has a terrible patch of scabs and sores from between his shoulders to his mid back, which are healing nicely with Veticyn gel, I believe these to be a flea allergy since if it were ring worm I'd have caught it by now. If anyone else can give me any kind of hope or advice on what to do until a vet can be seen, I'd appreciate it. He's very active and healthy otherwise. He plays and runs and climbs and eats very well. He's been on a 1/2 & 1/2 dry kitten chow & kitten can food diet, all grain free.
