So we live in a two bedroom apartment and we both have cats. Hers is under a year and mine is about 3 years. Both are male, both are fixed. Everything was going fine until a couple weeks ago when her cat started to pee on her bed. She tried everything to get him to stop. She took him to the vet and he is fine. He's no longer peeing on her bed but has started to pee on mine. I can't really keep him out of my room because that would mean locking my cat in there so I don't think that would be fair. But I'm sick of washing my sheets all the time. There are three litter boxes in the apartment and I just don't understand how to stop it.

Hi @maggiefbryant,

since you mentioned that he's been Vet checked for any bladder stones, crystals, or UTI's, then has any of the litter in the boxes been changed, or the location of the boxes?

Is the litter in his boxes cleaned daily, and is it soft?

Do both your cats use every box? Or do they choose certain ones?

For the time being, until you figure out why he is peeing on your bed, I would suggest buying those mattress protectors, or plastic-type protectors to put on your bed, so that the urine does not soak through.

You'll also have to use an enzymatic cleaner to clean the bed sheets so that no trace of cat urine remains.

Getting a 'black light' to find out all the urine spots, is also a good idea.

Curious, how she got him to stop using her bed?

Also, is he able to see any other cats out the window, who would agitate him?

The boxes are in the same spot. The litter brand varies but it always has. It's just normal clumping litter. Sometimes with odor eliminaters.
I thought he has stopped using her bed but this morning I saw all her sheets pulled so he must have. We live in an apartment so he doesn't really see other cats other than my own.
My cat generally only uses his box but her cat uses both

Can you ask your roommate if the Vet did a urinalysis 'in house' or sent it off to be tested? And if any bloodwork was done?

It may be better to have a 'Urine Culture and Sensitivity' test sent out, to test for bacteria in the bladder.

For now, try not to use the 'odour eliminator' type of litter, since it may prevent him from wanting to use the litter box.

Just use the plain, unscented ones. Some cats are bothered by various scented litter brands.

If you need to, later, just put some plain baking soda in the litter, and mix it to absorb some odours.

Some cats avoid the litterbox, if they had pain there, since they associate the pain with the box. Or if another cat scared them, while they were going.

Some declawed cats will stop using the litter box, because of pain, under their paws, and look for softer places to go. (this may not apply to your friend's cat, but I thought I'd mention it.)

Another reason, could be territorial marking, but you did say that both cats are neutered, and even though they can still mark, ...I'm not sure if he would just choose the beds to mark.

If the cats both get along, and are not stressed, then the marking...wanting to make things smell of their scent...can still happen, but usually doesn't.

It's like a cat has to show other cats, that he owns that place, or that the things peed on, and people are his.

The only other suggestions would be trying out 'Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract Litter' or just the 'Attractant' which mixes in with his normal litter. You can also buy it at some pet stores:

Some members have mentioned that the actual litter is stronger, and better to use:

It's so difficult because you have to find all the spots, clean them all, and in the meantime figure out why he does not consistently use his litter box.

The type of litter box is also important. Having an open top, long and wide box is better, so he feels it is roomy, and can see around.

He only goes on the beds and it's becoming a problem. I'm getting so irritated because he literally doesn't care. He still uses the litter box so it's him being an asshole.

I can't offer any definitive guesses but my first thought was territorial marking. Have you tried Cat Attract (HERE)? I cannot vouch for it enough, and it saved us a lot of frustration with our extremely litter-picky cat!
