Gosh now is not a good time to give a detailed history because I'm panicking, but I'll try.

For the past few weeks I've changed my kitties diets a little bit to accommodate Nat who is now at the beginning stages of renal failure.  So, adding a little water to their canned foods.  They've been getting Jarrow probiotic for months now, and tolerating it just fine.  I started giving L-lysine about a week ago because of Nat's right eye which gets weepy from time to time, never been diagnosed but I asked his vet if I could give L-lysine and he said yes.  I put it in all their food because they eat together - 6 bowls. And they switch bowls while they are eating.  Each bowl has the same thing in it.  Usually 2 different kinds of canned foods that I rotate.

I stopped feeding fishy foods because of what I've read about it here.  I think Honey might have just been protesting and not eating what I put out.  I see her at the food bowls so I assume (I know you should never assume) that she was eating some of it.  She's gotten picker and picker these past few weeks.  I think she missed the FF flaky tuna Gracie used to eat and the Friskies ocean whitefish and tuna, that I used to rotate.

These past few days she has thrown up more and more.  And her poos have gotten really stinky again like before she went on the probiotic.  It's loose but it usually is from time to time.  Yesterday she didn't eat at all that I could see, except for the little bit of baby food chicken I syringe fed her last night.

Yesterday I took her to the nearest vet office in town.  They drew a senior panel, gave her 150ml Lactated ringers sub-q, and gave her I guess about 5 mg of Metoclopramide (reglan) for nausea.  I brought her home and syringe fed her the baby food chicken.

This morning I went and got some more FF flaky tuna just to get her to eat anything.  She DID!  She acted like that was the only thing she wanted.  I had to go to work but was so glad to see her eating!  I hoped it stayed down.

But tonight, I came home and saw her waiting in the kitchen. She didn't look right at all.  Moving a little more slowly and just not herself.  She crawled up on the sofa behind me and put her head down to rest.  Like she didn't have much energy.  It could be that Oreo ate most of the flaky tuna this morning  He can be a bit of a hog, he is an alpha kitty.

Anyway, I just smeared some honey on her gums and syringe fed her about 4 ml baby food chicken. She ran and hid under my bed.  I put some FF flaky tuna in a bowl and slid it under her nose. At first she just put her nose on it, which is not like her.  Then she slowly started eating.  I got another can of ocean whitefish and tuna (because it's pate) and put that in the bowl.  She's eating that too.  I hope she keeps it down.  Please keep it down!

Here's my question;  what else can I do?  I actually have a 1 liter bag of normal saline from when my mom, who had medical care at home, would need fluids because of dehydration.  That's all they would give her.  Should I give Honey normal saline sub-q?  It's not as good as ringers because that has electrolytes but I don't think it will add too much saline to her system.  I'm reluctant to give it without some advice from others who aren't in a panic state like I am right now.

Please help!

Since I've been writing this, Honey must have passed right by me and is now in the kitchen in one of the chairs looking out.  I'm sure she feels better now that she has some food in her.  I so wish I didn't have to go to work tomorrow, but I work the next 3 days :(

I think she has kept the food down so far.  These past few days she has only thrown up in the mornings.  Tonight when I got home I saw 2 little spots, very small.

Honeybee on my lap, music playing in background
just read this. if you feel she has dehydration then you can give fluids. usually they go by the tacky gums and tenting skin.

How is she doing today? it's possible the reglan got her feeling odd. How is her heart? They only say to go gentle on heart patients as far as fluids. My angel Floey was a heart kitty and we did 100 ml at a time but she wasn't eating at ALL when I decided to administer. we use Cerenia for anti nausea. Wish you were closer.

I would feed her whatever she will eat. My girls Pumps and Bee Kitty HATE most canned food. They will take a lick at it but most of the time ignore it.

Let me know how she is doing.

How is Honey doing today?  Was she able to keep down her most recent meal?  I'm really hoping that she starts to feel better after she gets a bit of her old favorite tuna and whitefish inside of her.

In the meantime, did you see the "My Sick Cat Won't Eat" thread featured on the front page?  There are some terrific ideas in there for getting cats to eat: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/330148/my-sick-cat-wont-eat

Paws crossed that Honey feels better:

She's still not up to par but better than yesterday.  Then she seemed to be fading fast and would have if I hadn't done something.  I'm still concerned about the loose poos.  Right now she's on the big sofa facing away from me.  That tells me not all is well. Usually she's right beside me.  The vet said her labs were all fine considering her age.  And he also told me to feed her whatever she wants to eat.  I'm game.  I just never knew she would go on a hunger strike, if that's what this was, without her fishy food.  As soon as I put it under her nose last night, she started licking it.  Time will tell.  Thank you for your concern!

So she seems to be eating much better although she hasn't made up for the lost weight yet.  She just loves FF flaky tuna which her mama loved too.  I've noticed that I no longer hear her stomach gurgling and I wonder if those were hunger pangs I was hearing, not indigestion.  She doesn't always come to the bowl when I put them out, sometimes she hides under the bed, but then later she will eat after the boys have had their fill.  So I make sure she is eating.  She hasn't thrown up at all in more than a week now.  Come to think of it, neither has Nat.

It's wonderful to hear that both Honey and Nat are feeling better.   Chula does the same thing as Honey.  Unless she is really hungry, she waits for Paul to finish before heading to the bowl.  She has it timed pretty well, getting there right before Paul does.  Anyway, great news!
