Hi I was hoping for advice for my mums cat. My elderly Gran accidentally stepped on my mums cat and gazed his paw pad badly. He always had soft paw pads anyway and the whole of the main pad was skinned. We immediately took him to the vet who were more concerned about telling us how odd his pad were then to treat him.

It's been a week now and every time we go back to redress it as the vet takes off the bandage as it's stuck to the bandage anything that's healed peels off.

We're so worried it's been a week and he's no better and the vet is talking about sending the pads for a biopsy which we haven't let them, it's badly injured anyway without slicing in to it!

Any suggestions please??

Is it possible there was something happening with the paw pad before your gran accidentally stepped on the paw, and this accident drew attention to it, or perhaps it was more succepbable to injury because of what was happening?   What your vet is suggesting sounds sensible to me, though it is always worrying thinking about tests, esp ones where they want to take a biopsy.  Did the vet talk to you about what it would involve?  ( It might only be a tiny bit of the skin).

What does the vet say is so odd about your mum's cat's pads?  Are they shaped strangely?  Have a weird texture?  It sounds like even before the problem with the sticking bandages developed, you vet was already concerned about something.  I'd get more information on that - it might be that a biopsy is actually a reasonable approach.  If you are not certain about this vet,  get a second opinion.

It seems strange to me that the bandage keeps  pulling off the healing tissue.  I have to admit that I don't know much about the materials used to make bandages but I always thought they were  specially made to prevent that very thing.  What I'm wondering is:  is this a problem with the pad not healing right or is it a problem with the bandage not being right for the injury?
