This will sound strange, but, it's just the way he is.
Gibsy is 7 months old and eats ground up raw chicken necks with vitamin supplement. (over 1/2lb morning and 1/2lb night).
With bowl in hand, he's extremely excited and spins circles like a puppy under my feet. If you watch him for more than a couple seconds, you'll get dizzy.
I mean, it's a challenge just to get his bowl set down on the floor because he's spinning circles and in the way.
As soon as the bowl hits the floor, GOBBLING like a starving puppy.  (for 15lbs, I sure don't think he's starving getting over a lb a day).

Ran out of his chicken neck grind couple days ago and been getting the "run-around" from the grocery store.
SO, we got him some chicken THIGHS.
No time to grind them on Monday, so we deboned a few and fed him.
....Tuesday morning.......the last of his chicken neck grind.
....Tuesday evening......cut up chunks of chicken thighs (ice cube size, not ground).
....Wed morning.......Mix of ground up chicken thighs, and beaver (yep, beaver...I have an in-law....don't ask
).  All meat was good, fresh. Beaver really dark/red meat though.
....Wed evening.....NO interest, and NO excitement in seeing me carrying his food bowl what-so-ever.  He "meandered" over by it, took a whiff, and walked off.

He's not hot, not feverish, not really lethargic....plays with his toys, cuddles, purrs...."seems" pretty normal.   Went to sleep in my lap Wed night and I'd get a stinky poot about every 20 minutes.
I think I heard is stomach gurgling a bit also.

And he did go poop in his litter box sometime Wed night (last night).

Didn't attempt to feed him this morning though, since all I had was still that chicken/beaver grind.

Think it could be the change in meats 10hrs before he said "No Food"?
Or could it be the "chunks" of chicken thigh (instead of ground), 24hrs before he said "No Food"?

Or something else?

He loves ground turkey, I'm going to try that at noon today just to see if it is that red meat messing with him.
In the meantime, any thoughts?

Chicken necks are SUPER boney, is he having any constipation issues with that? What pre-mix are you using to make it a complete meal?

I would not feed him any of the thigh/beaver, I would toss it and make him something fresh. Clearly something about that food isn't agreeing with him.

We grind the chicken necks.  He has no problems with those.  (WildTrax is the supplement added to raw meat with bone. In this case, the raw meat/bone has always been chicken necks)
What changed was,
24hrs before refusal to eat: He ate chicken thigh meat cut into small cubes (instead of ground chicken necks).
10hrs before refusal to eat: He ate ground chicken thighs mixed with ground beaver.

It wasn't as if he wanted to eat, smelled it, and said YUK NO!  It's more along the lines of he didn't even respond to the "dinner bell" at all.  Usually he goes berserk when he sees me carrying his food bowl.

Interesting. I've never heard of WildTrax. Seems weird they've added DL-Methionine to supplement meat for raw feeding which on its own a high enough in natural methionine.

Any time a cat behaves differently, even if it's a small behavioral change, it's worth paying attention to. I would proceed with trying to find some turkey thighs and making him some new food. It's likely he just doesn't like the new food as much as his necks.

He's eating ground turkey now.  Not gobbling it like he normally eats, but, he's staying with it.   Gave him 1/2lb and it's almost gone.

I think..it's either that beaver meat messing with him, or, he has a baby tooth problem...

Just to add in, it could be a texture thing. If the texture of the other food is different he could be just not liking hiw it feels when he eats it. Smelling that it is the same as the food he didn't like doesn't get excited.
