i recently adopted a 1 year old

and already have a 2 year old

both spayed females

the new one chases the other

relentlessly

she has taken over everywhere and

every hiding spot

and when the 2 year old

even moves to go from one

place to another she chases her

until she jumps up on the table or

the counter

and lays nearby when she uses the

litter box then jumps her

im concerned that eventually my first cat

will stop using the box or stop eating

i have litter boxes and food/water in

every room

i dont know what else to do

ive tried adopting other cats in the

hopes that someone will get along

with my first one but with no success yet

i really want to keep two but

is this really how a cat should live?

Did you do an introduction or do you just put two cats together?  Here is an article on introductions http://www.thecatsite.com/a/how-to-successfully-introduce-cats-the-ultimate-guide    Except with small kittens cats usually have to be introduced slowly.  They need to be kept with a closed door between them and get used to each other through scent first.  Usually you can get them to the point that they will at least coexist peacefully.

Even though you have already put them together, you can still separate them and go through the introduction process, which should help the situation.  You're right that your first cat could develop behavior problems if she is constantly stressed by the attentions of your new cat.  Reintroducing them is really the way to go.

Good luck!
