Hello there.  I am hoping someone my have some answers for me.  About 3 years ago we adopted a 13 month old cat from the SPCA.  It was love at first site.  He really choose us.  We brought him home and he bonded with everyone in the house as well as our other cat.  But he was my baby.  He snuggled with me, slept on me, gave me kisses, talked to me and even hugged me.  He was like this up until about 6 months ago.  all of the sudden he wont look at me, totally ignores my presence in the room.  I can't hold him or pet him and even to brush him, he spends the whole time trying to get away from me.  He goes to my husband, talks to my husband, allows my husband to do just about anything to him and he loves it.  Have I done something?  Can a change this a bit?   I don't begrudge my husband at all but I really do miss my cat

Did your routine change when this started happening as being gone more often than your husband? Because that could be why. The same thing happened with Angel except she bonded with me instead of my parents who brought her home. Cats like to choose their people, I guess.  I'm sorry this is happening though.

Thank you so much for your reply.  My heart is kind of breaking over this.  I am home the same amount of time as I have always been.  I am disabled so I rarely go out.  The only thing that has changed around the same time as Shugo's behavior changed was that my husband was laid off work, so he is home most of time as well now.  Is there anything that I could try or should I just keep my fingers crossed that Shugo will start recognizing me again?

No problem we're here to help!
I don't blame you I'd feel some jealousy, too. Are you the one that feeds him? Sometimes they make friends with who feeds him. Maybe try to feed him treats and play with him. If it doesn't work out maybe adopt your own cat or a kitten that will bond with you. :)

My cat chose my partner when she reached adulthood. I think some cats just attach to one person. I felt miserable too at first then I decided to get over it. I expect getting another cat helped but I also made sure make sure I sought her out for a pat and to talk. I also boughtk her out and give her a pat and talk to her.
