Hi! To first begin, I have 5 cats, two of which are males and the other three are females. They are around 5 months old currently. Yesterday, I took both male cats to the vet to have them neutered. When I picked them up later in the day and brought them home, they were still very groggy which I'm sure is normal. However, my three other female cats were acting very aggressive towards them. All of these cats are related and have been together since day 1 and have never fought and are very loving with each other. However since the male cats have been neutered, the female cats have been hissing at them and running away from them. Is this normal behavior or should I be concerned? Thanks!

It's normal. It has nothing to do with the neutered. It's because they smell different and like the vet. You can use real vanilla extract and put a bit under each of their chins to help them all smell the same again.

Do you plan to spay your girls too?

Oh wow, I had no idea. My dog who is usually very docile and will snuggle with the cats was also behaving weirdly towards them so I wasn't sure. And yes, I am going to get the girls spayed within the next couple of weeks. Thank you for your info

I had the same problem when I spayed my male cat, the female couldnt recogonize his smell, and they kept fighting for 2 days then she remembered him. I think this is very normal and will last for 2 days or little more.

I am so glad to hear you were able to get your cats fixed! Did you do both?

Yeah I had the male fixed, but the female is 2300 gm, my vet recommended to wait until she reaches 3000 gm at least then will perform. She is 9 monthes old only, siamese.
Thanks a lot that u still consider my case :)

Of course! I would go ahead and consider spaying her now, though. She may stay a very small cat and nine months is more than old enough. Each heat is quite stressful for her body and there's always the chance she could get out. Perhaps another vet would be more comfortable.

Did you have to do anything for your cats to get along after the vet? Or they worked it out on their own?

Really I would think of spaying her very soon, I just have an inquiry, she had heat seasons only 2 times during the last 5 month, but it has been 3 monthes since she had a heat? Is that normal? Or may be she had once but she didn't demand?? Could this happen?

And for ur question :) no they get along without any help, it was quite funny that the first 2 days she was hiding of him, then the third day when she begin to remember she was playing and running of him at the same time. Both of them are really lovely :)

Yes, some heats can be silent. They may also get more frequent and regular as she gets older.

Hi, you were right about them calming down after a couple of days, everything appears to be fine now! Unfortunately though, one of my cats did gain an infection from being neutered, however he is on antibiotics and seems to be doing better.

An infection at the neuter site or a URI?

At the neuter site :( I noticed lots of swelling but the vet said it was normal, but by the next day it looked black and white and bruised. Now it looks a little bit raw still, but he's playful and running around again so I think he's feeling better.
He's on antibiotics for another week and a half.
