Yesterday around 1:00PM I received some flowers in a large bouquet. My curious kitten was sniffing them and thinking that she'd leave them alone after examination, I held her up to the flowers to sniff. She put her nose right in a fresh, newly opened lily.

Throughout the day she would jump up on the counter and sniff the greenery and rub herself against the plants. The lily was high enough up that she didn't make direct contact tact with the open flower. There was multiple lilies that weren't open yet however throughout.

We did not see her eat any leaves or stems.

Around 12AM I realized that she wasn't leaving the plants alone and I googled them only to realize that lilies are very poisonous.

At 2:00AM I mixed half a capsule of charcoal with some can food and she ate it. No vomiting or diarrea occurred.

As of right now she's acting like herself. We took her to the vet at 9:30AM and they said she seems alright but to bring her back for blood tests at 2:00PM and then at the 72 hr mark. We were given some non-absorbing litter for Urine tests. She'a 6lbs and 9 months.

Should I be concerned? And if the blood tests come back normal than is there a concern over her being poisoned and it not showing until 72 hours or more?

If anyone has any experience with their cats and lilies or has any vet knowledge that would be amazing. I haven't slept all night with worry.

Thank you.

It sounds like you've done all the right things and now it's just a wait and see game.  Did the vet give you a list of things to watch out for and to report right away?  It's good you have follow-up appointments already.  I can't think of anything else you can do but wait.  Good job!

Years ago, my kitty Sammy ate a prayer plant which he had previously left alone.  I called the breeder crying saying he was going to die.  But he didn't.  Prayer plants are on the safe list.  I learned then that I can never have plants in my house unless I first make sure they are safe.
