Hi, we are moving tomorrow from our home as its closing and  into a hotel for 3 weeks because our new home that we are building is delayed, and so we have the hotel in between. Can anyone give advice on how to make my baby feel more secure during the move from here, then into the hotel for 3 weeks then into the new home. We tried to get our buyers to do the same dates but they wouldnt budge so here we are. He has hated all the packing and changes here, so hoping to get some advice on the transition from here to hotel, then to new home 3 weeks later. Im thinking the 3weeks will be the worst as none of our stuff will be there, so it will be totally unfamiliar. thanks in advance

Whew, as if moving wasn't stressful enough already, of course we have to worry about our little babies. I've made four moves with multiple cats over the years, so I have some experience trying to keep them as calm as possible. There are a few products you can use to help ease the transition. All of them are easily found in most pet stores.

The first is GNC's Calming formula cat treats. They contain a blend of vitamins and minerals that will help your kitty chill out a bit. I actually used these regularly to help my cat who had stress-induced asthma. All of my cats seem to love the flavor, so no issues getting them to take it.

Another good product I've used often is Nature's Miracle calming spray, which contains a blend of natural pheromones and herbal extracts to help reduce anxiety. I'd use this on the kitties' favorite blankets, bedding, inside of cat carriers, furniture, or any other areas where I wanted the kitties to feel safe. For instance, I'd spray around the perimeter of the room(s) I'd be keeping the cats in during the whole moving process, and on any new unfamiliar furniture. It is odorless, so there are no weird smells.

Feliway diffusers have also been great. They're basically the same thing as the calming spray, but in the form of a Glade plug-in, haha. It's a nice way to keep a continuous flow of happy kitty pheromones throughout the new home. Again, no weird odors thankfully, so I'm sure there wouldn't be any issues with using one in the hotel if you need to. I think Feliway also makes a spray, but I've never used theirs before.

Lastly, if you have any concerns regarding litter box usage (since some cats can get confused about where to go after a move), I've had great success with Dr. Elseys Precious Cat "Cat Attract" litter. It has some kind of magical herbal blend that tells cats "this is where I should pee/poop!" lol. That's all I can really say about it. I had 3 cats making a mess outside of their litter boxes until I got this litter, so I'm a fan.

That's all I can think of. :) Best of luck to you and your family (and kitty) during the move!

bring a few smaller familiar things to the hotel, including some that smell like your cat and some that smell of you - i find HK feels more secure if he can lie on my husband's worn shoes.

can you bring one of the current litter boxes?
