It was an interesting compliment. One summer morning, I was walking down the street in my work neighborhood (before I got my treadmill, I'd walk early in the morning before work, then come into work and change my clothes). Anyway, I was walking west, so I had the sun behind me. A woman was walking east, toward me. She stopped and said, "Man, your hair is gorgeous! With the sun shining behind you, your hair looks like it's on fire. It's beautiful!"
Well, what do you say to that? I smiled and said, "Well, thank you!" I have to admit it made my morning.
I did once, some 60 years ago when I was driving from Liverpool to London by myself. He was a young soldier returning home from somewhere. It was a long journey and I was glad to have some company. But I wouldn't do it today. I'm 30 years older and I am aware of the danger. Unfortunately too many people have been hurt doing that.
Yes. I was young and stupid and ended up hurriedly getting out of the car in front of someone else's house. Then I hid behind some bushes and waited to walk home until the creep stopped cruising the neighborhood.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I don't think I had a profession in mind but what I did know was that I wanted to go abroad and learn about other countries and their people. I was fascinated by the foreign merchant and passenger ships I could see from the roof of our home sailing towards our Port. If it had been posssible then for women to become sailors that is what I would have wanted to be. I used to drive my family crazy asking questions about the world. That was how I got my nickname Golondrina (swalow .
Are you interested in the culture and habits of different countries and nationalites?
My first pet was a small kitty.
I was about eight years old, and the kitty was a present birthday present from my sister. She need I loved animals, and always wanted a kitty of my own. Kitty was a black and white tuxedo cat that I named Blackie. I loved that little girl with all my heart, and we became best friends. She passed around the age of thirteen from cancer (terrible disease). Still miss that kitty till this day. Ever since, I have always had at least one kitty. Too lonely without one to love.
What is your favorite pet , after a cat of course?
