Hello.... I am desperate.  My husband and I found a stray kitten outside about 7 weeks ago and decided to take him in.  We currently have a 4 yr old male cat (neutered) who has been with us the past 3 yrs after we adopted him from the shelter.  We followed the  protocol, kept them separate.  New Kitten, Duke, was pretty sick,  and tiny so we kept him in his own room for at least 3 weeks, we did let them see each other and sniff around week 2, but never interact.  He  has had Veterinary attention, and is now healthy, happy and  thriving.   We continued to  move forward with the integration, and they started eating meals together no problem, and would occasional bird watch at the window and door.  I continued to increase supervised times, and would intervene when play got too rough.  Fast forward to week 7, and they still cannot be left alone together as Perry, our resident cat, keeps stalking him trying to pin him down and bite his back. He also makes this odd meowing sound while he is  doing it.  Duke doesnt appear to be in pain, and doesnt make any noise.  They behavior keeps getting  worse, and I don't know  what to do.  Duke will now be  about 14 weeks old, per the vet, and Im wondering if he should be neutered? They said to wait  until 5 months, but im at my whit's end.  They also play at times, and Perry does get pretty rough on occassion, and i always worry he will hurt the kitten.  I have 4 cat trees in the house now to try to give them space, lots of new toys, 3 litter boxes, 2 sets of food and water dishes.  I  play and give attention to both cats, but im constantly playing referee!  Oh, im also 7 months pregnant, hormonal and really want happy cats before I have to take care of a new born :)

First, you do know you mustn't go near litter boxes when you're pregnant?

Second, Duke can definitely be neutered at 14 weeks. The ASPCA in NYC neuters at 8 weeks.

I think they are probably just playing. It seems rough to you, but if Duke is okay with it, maybe it is okay.

Yes, my husband takes care of the litter boxes, no worries.

here is a video I took earlier, I don't think its playing.

Hi, I am wondering how your situation worked out? I am having the same issues. I recently rescued a baby kitten. My 3 year old male (neutered) is constantly pinning her down and biting her neck. It terrifies me. He is so big. I am afraid he will hurt her. The kitten never cries, in fact I think she was purring one time. Have your cats stopped this?

You might want to PM the poster of this thread, it may be faster. I looked at the video and the cat is definitely trying to mate with the kitten. When they grab the back of the neck like that it is a dominance thing used in mating. I would think it could hurt a small kitten. Until your kitten is big enough to hold her own and fight back, I would not let him do this. Tell him, NO and make him spend a few minutes in a time out.He will eventually learn you are not happy with this behavior. A neutered cat will still display this kind of behavior, especially with a female. He will tire of it sooner or later, it is instinct driving him on to be dominate. A small kitten can be easily hurt so keep them separate unless you can supervise them, he will let off when she fights back, but that may not be until she is spayed or until she has been there longer and he gets used to her and her new smells. Good luck and keep us posted!
