Hello, I need some advice from all you wonderful knowledgeable people. To make the back story as short as possible,my neighbor passed away leaving a husband who is in very bad health. He knows I used to foster for our local rescue and one of the reasons his wife and I were such good friends was our shared love of cats, so he asked me to find homes for her three babies. It just about broke his heart so I decided to keep them so he could visit whenever he wants.

I had no idea the two boys were not fixed until I brought them home. I was fortunate that the vet was able to fit them both in the day after, which was October 4th. I took the female in as well just to get a health check and she was fine, underweight but other than that in good health. She's an older girl around 6 or 7 the vet thinks and never had kittens. I'm not sure how in the world she was able to avoid that with two in tact males in the house.well anyway, I have four cats of my own and everyone has been separated to do a slow transition/introduction to each other. The female (Nightmare) has been kept separate from evryone , including the boys, since we took her. She's very moody and has quickly bonded to me and doesn't seem even interested in being in the same room with the others. Fast forward, she's pregnant or atleast I think she is. It's very confusing, which is weird because I mostly fostered pregnant mom's back in the day. There is no way she was impregnated here as she has not even been around another cat but one of my females since she got here. The boys are both neutered, I do have an in tact male but he has never been around her.
It had to have happened before I got them from the neighbor and they were all running around the house together.

Here is the weird part and why I have been so confused. From what I could estimate she should be due to give birth any day, this week or next. She is huge and her teets are starting to fill and are big as well. Shouldn't I be seeing movement by now? I mean every cat I fostered would have started showing movement even the ones who were only pregnant with two kittens. The vet has never confirmed the pregnancy even though I have talked with him several times over the last couple of weeks. He says as long as she is doing well there is no need and told me what to do which I already knew. He's out of town right now doing volunteer work and the other vet in his practice is swamped and only taking appt and emergencies.

I'm not sure why I'm freaking out. Maybe it's because it's been a long time since I've been around pregnant cats. Is it possible she is having a false pregnancy? Has anyone ever experienced a cat pregnancy that wasn't really a pregnancy?

She certainly sounds pregnant, and if it's a large litter you may not see much movement if the kittens are tightly packed.

You have 2 choices: wait it out or get an x-ray.

She'll need to be spayed after the kittens wean.
