Our 5 years old male cat had PU surgery last Wednesday, 5 days ago, and he's still not peeing or eating. He was back at the vet clinic twice, they sedate him and he pees, but he hasn't been peeing at home at all. It's been 36 hours since the last time he peed and he's just lethargic and purring on the bed.
I've been force feeding him small amounts of prescription food every few hours. I havent been able to make him drink anything.

I'm at my wit's end.

Have you tried syringing any liquids into his mouth?  Did the vet prescribe anything to control bladder spasms?  Pain killers?  He may even need anti-anxiety medication to help him relax.

Yes, that worked this morning. We syringed 50 ml of water into his mouth, by 5ml at the time- it was grueling, but he peed!!!! This is after 48 hours; we were getting ready to take him back to the vet.

Freddy is still not eating, though, and has not pooped in days.

I gave him his meds this AM and let him be for a few hours, but will try to feed him again soon. I was feeding him every few hours yesterday - he ate an ounce of prescription food at the time. He is on Prazosin, which should help with anxiety, and Clavamix.

Any other advice on how to help him through this is highly appreciated. Our vet is not helpful - the owner of the place, who performed the surgery, was rather defensive yesterday and kept saying 'I don't know what you are doing at home' while I was begging for advice on what to do about peeing. The other doctors at the place at least tried to give us advice, but I have a feeling that they dont have a lot of experience with PU recovery.

Thank you so much for the reply.

I think he needs pain killers and possibly something to control bladder spasms.

Are you able to get a second opinion from another vet?

@mrsgreenjeens thank you, that thread is helpful, I've read it over and over in the last week.

@talkingpeanut you saved my life.

Freddy is much better. He peed twice today, has been eating and drinking on his own. Half the time he's totally down, but the other half he's running around, so we all feel better.

He loaths the cone, though. 10 more days.

This is a great update! Do you have to have the cone on all the time?

I keep it on if we're not around. If someone can watch him, we take it off, but it usually takes 10 min before he tries to clean his backside. I'm afraid to let him do that, lest he pulls his stitches out.

He hasn't pooped yet, though, that's my concern now.

I would say cleaning the wound is ok as long as he's not pulling at the stitches. You don't want the collar making it impossible for him to resume normal activities, but you do need to me mindful of the healing incision. It's a hard balance.

Have you tried adding some plain canned pumpkin into his food?
