For months I've tried to help my kitten with loose stools  I've tried pumpkin, chicken & rice and Pepto Bismol    Nothing is changing it  Shes been like this since she was younger  Her overall health is great as she plkays hard with her cat friend daily as a normal cat would  She's eating & drinking  She was spayed a month ago but this problem started before that   I've raised kittens to cats for the last 11 yrs and this kitten has me dumbfounded   Any ideas? oh and yes< shes been treated for fleas 2X and wormed once  Thank you!

Sounds like she may have a reaction in her gut to the food she is eating. To test this, try switching completely to a raw diet for a while. Unless of course she refuses to eat any of it. This is the normal healthy way of eating for a cat and has cured mine of some problems. If you read up on this you may be amazed. I can't think of anything else that may be going on as she seems fine otherwise. Have you tried some probiotics yet? Keep us posted and hopefully others will have more ideas here.

I would have her stool tested for worms.  Cats are usually de-wormed three times, and less than that could easily allow the remaining worms to live.  Since diet hasn't helped it sounds like a medical issue.

NO pepto for cats! It's not safe at all. Cats are not dogs. NO rice. Cats can't digest rice.

What food are you feeding? If you've ruled out worms or other parasites it's most likely the food. Cats are obligate carnivores, so you want to feed high meat based foods. Ideally this means no kibble, and high quality wet or raw foods. In addition, digestive enzymes and probiotics can help control diarrhea.

I would ask the vet to test for tritrichomonas foetus using the PCR diarrhea panel to rule out some obscure parasites and maybe look at feeding her a special diet food to see if that helps. My male cat cannot tolerate most foods, so he's on prescription wet and dry and that keeps his poopies firm.

Thank ALL of you for your great suggestions!  I do need to take her to the vet.  Should I also try worming her once more?  She is to have a flea and ear mite treatment today per the vet who spayed her a month ago.  I'm guessing those critters could cause upset stomach. I guess my biggest issue is how do I feed her differently than my other 7 cats?  I keep dry out all the time.  It's just a store brand so it's not great but it's what I can afford with so many animals.  I have dogs, horses and barn cats too.  I have started giving all cats who will eat it, wet food bc I lost a cat to urine blockage.  I learned that the store food is for the convenience of the human and not necessarily good for the cat BUT I've had cats for 10 years and none have ever had a problem until this year when one of my 3 yr olds did.  I want to do the best I can for Cali, my furbaby with the digestion issues - stool issues.  I feed her cooked chicken twice a day when I feed my dogs that mixed with their dry food... they too had stool issues last year until I moved to a 'sensitive systems' food for the dogs.  ThANKS AGAIN TO ALL WHO TOOK THE TIME TO WRITE!
