Well, I've never had a cat give birth, this was my first ever experience. It all started with Nala our Main Coon, meowing at my feet, then walking off to the passage and wait for me, eventually I followed, and she led me to the wardrobe, jumped into the first shelve and laid down. That's when I noticed her bottom was wet.
I quickly removed the clothes and replaced it with a blanket and got some towels and water (like a real midwife) but the moment I left her she followed, dragging a baby along. So I ended up sitting with her throughout the process. When finally there were 6 kittens, with 1 still born, I figured she was done and went to bed. She came to me 4 times during the night, sitting next to my bed and meowing.
I went and sat with her every time, until I figured she was sleeping.
By this morning, exhausted from playing the midwife, I went to check on mommy Nala. got her some food and moved the kittens to the box to take them upstairs and put them in my room. I noticed 4 of them were tied up with an ambilical chord still stuck to one of the other kittens. I panicked at first but then carefully cut the placenta away and removed the umbilical chords, freeing the 4 trapped kitties.
She went upstairs with me, and fed them, but the moment i leave the room she follows. She seems to want me to sit with her at all times. I've never experienced such behavior at all. I eventually had to closer her in the room, to keep her with the kittens, so that I could go to work. Hope she'll manage with them.
