My cat just had her first kitten. She is young and I didn't even know she was old enough to get pregnant. I took her to get and found out. She only had one kitten and does not appear to have more coming. Her belly is back to normal. She wanted me with her giving birth and now will not allow me to leave the room. Every time I get up she follows me and leaves the baby. As soon as I go back in room she goes back to baby. What should I do? Cannot sit in the room all night. I tried closing the room but she hears my other female cat and starts crying for me to open the door. Please help.

PS: yes she is getting fixed as soon as she is able. I just didn't have the heart to abort the kitten when found out pregnant.

How are things going?  Did mama have any more kittens?  It's about 8 hours since you posted so by now the night is over and I'm wondering what you ended up doing.  It's not uncommon for new mamas to want their humans near them for awhile after giving birth but I'm not that experienced with this so am not sure how long it keeps up.  Hopefully someone who has had a similar experience can give you better information on that.

You could perhaps arrange her nest in your bedroom, near your bed?  This way she will have your companionship most of the time you are home.

Funny enough, exactly a similiar old tread has been renewed last hours...

Most new mom cats settle down after the first 2-3 days. I agree that putting her in your bedroom is a good idea. Wherever you put her, please leave her food, water, and litter in the room nearby as well.

Is the kitten latching and nursing well?

It is just the one kitten. She never got really big which was why not was a surprise nshe was even pregnant. Kitten is nursing well. No crying or fussing. I thought about the bedroom idea but there are so many places we could hide and get hurt in there. Plus much colder in there.
New mom, Scruffy, and my other female, Rey, are getting along great. Scruffy let Rey sniff the kitten and watch it while she walked out of room. They are used to being locked up together at night so that is what I did. Normal routine so they knew we were in bed no use fussing. This am mom and kitten are doing fine.

Just be sure to put food, water, and litter in there with them at night. We'd love to see pictures! [emoji]128571[/emoji]

The room is the kitty room so multiple foods, water bowls, and litter boxes. I can tell when kitten is nursing because Scruffy (mom) kneeds her paws. She is a kneeder when sitting on me.

They look so sweet.

Can you keep mom 100% inside and away from intact males until she is spayed? She can get pregnant again at any time, even without going into heat.

Is your other girl spayed? We'd be happy to help you to find a low cost clinic if needed.

Yes the other female is. I took them both in to get done and that is how I found out Scruffy was pregnant. I couldn't go through with it with her. She will be done once baby is old enough. I have gotten rid of the male kitty so no worries about that again.

Just figured I would update everyone. Scruffy (aka Scruff Butt) and little Fluff Nut are doing fine. Day 2 she wanted me by her side again all day but finally yesterday I was able to sit in the living room. She would come out and say hi, get her some love then go back to the baby. I guess she feels sure enough about herself now.

Yes. Mom should not have to go far for any of her needs. It's also essential that she stay inside and away from intact males until the kittens have weaned and until she has been spayed.

OK mom and kitten are doing good but today my other cat just started acting weird. The mom brought the kitten to me in the living room. She wanted attention I think. Well took her and kitten back in room and the other female followed. I closed them in (they stay this way all the time) and I heard the kitten screaming. I go in there and my other female cat is in the box with the mom and kitten and there is not enough room. I quickly moved kitten so would not get hurt and got other female out of room. Mom went back to box and kitten to clean it and everything seems fine with them. I went back in living room with other female and she keeps yelling at door or sniffing me for scent of kitten.
Is something wrong with the kitten or is other female think it is hers? They have been fine until just now

Sorry, I'm just rereading above and you said you had one spayed female and the one who just delivered? And now you're saying she's not spayed? Sorry, maybe I'm confused.

If she is not spayed, she is probably having a hormonal reaction to the kitten. You may need to keep mom, the kitten, and everything she needs in their own room for now.
