I have a 10 month old kitty who is in overall good health. This afternoon I saw her walking down the hallway oddly and she was growling, then she turned and went back to the bedroom she had come out of..still walking oddly. It wasn't so much a limp, as a crooked walk. Sort of a mix of the two. I called my husband to the room and told him something was wrong with her. We coaxed her to walk again so he could see, and she again walked oddly and then was falling over and laying down on the side that seemed to have something wrong. The issue appeared to be her back leg/hip. I have no idea what could have happened as there was no loud sound, there are no stairs in the house, and her litter mates were all asleep so it wasn't rough housing that got out of hand.

Husband hopped in the shower because we were planning to take her to an emergency vet, the closest being 2 hours away, while I researched hip dislocation (which was my first thought by how she appeared) and kitty napped in our bedroom.

Then she got up again and meowed at me (she is a talker and it was one of her normal meows) and started walking. This time her walk appeared to be normal. Her one back hip *maybe* appears like it is not 100% symmetrical with her other one when she sits, but she walked normally through the house and to her food bowl and ate. She let us pet her, even stood up on her hind legs to rub our hands when we were not quick enough to reach her to pet her. She then walked back to our bedroom, without even so much as a limp, and laid down again to resume her nap. I turned on a heating pad and laid it beside her for her to use if she wants.

I am wondering what could have possibly caused this or what could be wrong, if anything. Could it have been something like a charlie horse? Does that happen to cats? Could it be a strained muscle? Is it likely that it is something with her bones if she so quickly returned to normal? At this point we have decided to keep an eye on her and take her to our normal vet tomorrow if it seems that she needs to go, rather than forcing her into a crate for a two hour car ride to see an emergency vet..when it doesn't quite seem like an emergency situation at the moment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I am thinking she needs to have an x-ray taken of her hips, in order to be sure there is no abnormality in there, and to make sure things are ok...(thinking a dislocation? if that is able to happen to cats?????)

Cats hide pain.. so she could still be a bit sore..

I would take her to a reputable Vet on Monday..I would not wait...

If she suddenly has difficulty walking, then an emergency Vet is appropriate..
