Hi all
We just got a 3 month old kitten yesterday from the local animal control. They said she had a bit of an upper respiratory infection and gave us meds for them. She's really sneezy, little snot bubbles, and congested.

I took her to the vet today and the vet was concerned about the lump that she has where her hysterectomy was done. He also prescribed her some more meds L-Lysine (2x a day for 3 weeks). He also suggested that I take her back to the shelter where I got her from so they could look st her belly to make sure she's okay.

I'm kind of freaking out. I'm not too sure what else to do. She's a very sweet and loving cat. I can tell she's so congested. Does anyone here have any tips on how I can do to help besides giving her meds?

I read that kittens develop seromas from being too active after surgery. Which I can definitely tell with her. She's such a brave little fearless kitty. I just don't want anything bad to happen to her. I'm already attached and it's only been one day.

Any advice is greatly appreciated! :)

I should probably mention she is eating and drinking well. She doesn't like wet food, but loves the dry food.

So are the meds antibiotics? (besides the L-Lysine?)

As long as she's eating and drinking well, I wouldn't worry too much.  Just keep her warm, and if you want, you can put her in the bathroom after you've gotten it nice and steamy to help with the congestion.  If she starts not wanting to eat, then you can try heating up some really stinky WET food,, because when heated it gets stinkier, and then she should be able to smell it even thru the congestion
.  You might have to put some on your finger and put it in her mouth to get her started if it gets that bad, but doesn't sound like it.  You can also use things for babies to suck junk out of their noses.   Sorry, I don't know the terminology 'cause I don't have any kids, but I'm assuming it something like a reverse eye dropper
.

As to a possible seroma, I've heard they aren't dangerous, and most times eventually go away on their own, given enough time.  IF that's what that lump is.  Sometimes they need to be drained, but not always.  But it's definitely worth having the Vet who did the spay take a look at it.  I'm kind of surprised they let her be adopted until these issues were cleared up.

BTW, congratulations on your new furbaby

We took her back to Milwaukee animal control where we got her to have them take a look and sure enough she will be having surgery tomorrow morning. Because she was so active after the spaying, her stitches tore and her intestines aren't where they should be.

She's such a happy kitty, I would have never thought that was the issue. Yes, my vet said the same thing that they should have never let her been adopted until she was much better.

I cried my eyes out talking to the lady, but she said that it happens and that she'll be ready to go home tomorrow night.

But I'm definitely going to try the steam. She was up and playing at 4 this morning. So we definitely think her uri is getting better. Just now hoping her tummy is better soon!

Thanks for your response!

Update on Lily...
They called and said that they completed the surgery, but that the stitches opened again (hernia?). So another vet is coming in tomorrow to try to fix her back up. So hopefully she's home tomorrow. I've been a complete wreck since Sunday. I'm hoping this vet is able to fix it.

The vet on the phone said they're not sure why it keeps opening, that it could just be the type of suture she's doing. So they'll try something new tomorrow.

My heart just keeps sinking.
But I'm trying to stay positive.
