A stray has come to our house with a badly infected head wound. I can't take him to the vet. I do have some antibiotics in my med cabinet. Is it possible to give him some of that? If so, what would be the dosage. I have Vancomycin and azithromycin.

Thanks!

It's not safe to dose the cat by yourself. You need to consult a vet or a rescue. Thank you for caring!

When I have this problem, I call my vet, tell him I have a feral/stray that is not mine and cannot be brought in. I ask for and he gives me an over the counter liquid antibiotic and I dose the cat according to the instructions in a small amount of tuna juice when they show up to eat. I have done this for my feral tom every time he gets an abscess with great success, you can order the same antibiotic on the internet too. Of course the best thing to do is to go to a vet, but when it is not your cat but needs help, it is the best and least expensive way to do that.

Or, call your vet and ask the proper dose of what you have, and if it can be given at all, you will have to know the dose, 250mg/dl etc.,so have the bottle with you. They DO give advise over the phone,  or you can stop in with a picture of the wound on your phone so they know what they are dealing with. All the luck!

It is hard to see a critter that needs help, even wild ones! My house would probably be like Elly May Clampett  if I gave in to all of them!

I went to my local drug store. He sells veterinary supplies and was kind enough to draw out a dose of antibiotic for me. He said that would do until the vet opens. It looks pretty bad, but open and draining. He's eating too. I didn't want another cat

They keep showing up at my door too, they sense who will help. You will be blessed for helping this little one.

Sounds like an abscess to me. i even had all my 'local' ferals/strays spayed and neutered as to not get any more cats! It was well worth it! Every one is a lot happier now, including my checkbook, until the next one shows up!

My husband always says if there is something out there lost or in trouble we will find each other!
