Good morning!
And Happy (Black) Friday!

Rick and I are ready to go down to PetSmart for their 7:00 opening, but I wanted to post first.

How many Christmas cards do you send out? Who do you send to?

We don't mail many cards anymore. Years ago, we used to send out 60-70 cards around the holidays, but those days are gone. I always mail out to the TCS Card list and to close friends. But that's pretty much it anymore. I bet we'll mail 25 cards this year. No more than that, and maybe only around 20, til I get it finalized. We just don't do what we used to.

My mother used to love sending and receiving Christmas cards. She'd call me every day after Thanksgiving and said, "Well, we got ten cards today!" and she'd be tickled. And then she'd say, "But we didn't get yours yet!" And that was because I was always late.

How about you?

I still mail mine, I love receiving them, so I send them too.I send 20-24 out, to relatives and friends, especially those who are out of town. I always write at least one line of a personal nature too, just signing my name doesn't seem enough.  Every year there are fewer and fewer, it hurts when the older ones pass on, and they are the ones to send real cards. I absolutely HATE those long E-mail letters that many print up and send to the family at Christmas time, COME ON, do you really think we want to know everything you did over the whole year?!! To me it seems like bragging, they don't put in the bad or hard things that happened, and a lot of the truth seems to be lost somewhere. My sister -in-law stated she visited her parents (and us) every two weeks during the year, we are an hour away. We were lucky to see them every two months!

Sometimes I think I should print up a form letter that has all the remodeling botches, the gardens that failed, the hospital visits, the boring things we did, and send it to her and say "this is what WE did all year,  we can't match all your Caribbean trips, new cars, and the money you won in Vegas, but we survived and HAVE to have a better NEW Year, it can't get any worse!"

I only mail out about 10 cards to friends and family. The older you get the less friends and family you have left.

Less than a dozen to various friends from another cat board.

I remember my parents sending out stacks of cards while I was growing up. Every year they would send out the exact same Christmas card. It was like they had a never ending supply of the 1970's designed cards. I actually think they still have cards to send out this year
We used to get tons of cards in the mail from various relatives and neighbors and other people but no more. Many have passed away. Ohers moved away and stopped being in touch. Most of the younger relatives aren't interested in snail mail, just stuff posted on FB and other places which none of the older computer unsavy relatives use, like my parents. A few will send out photo cards of their kids.

I've no idea how many my parents do (and besides, they have a long record of never managing to buy, write/address and send them all in the same year! :lol3: ). I guess I send out maybe 12-15 (including local one that I drop off rather than post). I don't have a big or a close family, and I don't have a big circle of RL friends.

Oh, everyone at the stables always exchanges cards, so I do that too. There's been so much coming and going there recently, though, that I'm not clear on exactly how many horses and owners there are at present. It's usually around 20-ish (depending on how many people have multiple horses ;) ). No posting there though - we just hand them out, or leave them on the stable doors/walls.

I had gotten out of the habit of sending cards out, but this year I'm sending out about 10.   Just my nearest and dearest.  I'll get them done this weekend, and mailed out around the 1st of December.

Let's see....

Around 8-10 in total (Not including the TCS) give or take.  Mainly neighbours, friends and family matriarchs. Sometimes work related. I really like cards, I enjoy both sending them and receiving them. They are so pretty, personal, yet simple in a good way. They are always delightful to use for displaying.

I hope they never disappear entirely!

Ditto, one of my biggest pet peeves.  We read them and laugh cause they're full of B.S.

I still send cards but cut my list down to only out-of-towners.  Unfortunately they get out later and later every year, one time I sent them for New Year's instead.

We used to get one of those letters from a woman I knew years ago. It was so full of BS that Rick and I would just shake our heads. The thing is, we knew those people! We knew about all the bad things that happened and we knew that a lot of stuff in those letters simply was not true! We knew what her son and daughter were like! Why do people do that? I'd rather get nothing than a letter full of crap.

I miss my parents at Christmas. I think about them more than I thought I would, to be honest. I miss calling Mom I miss talking to her in the morning. I miss her complaining to me about things. She's been gone a few years now and I still miss that phone call on Thanksgiving; she'd always call each of her kids to wish them a Happy Thanksgiving. Same with Christmas, even though we'd be seeing them in just a few hours, she would still call. I thought about that on Thanksgiving morning. (And now I'm sounding maudlin....I'm sorry.)

My older relatives have all passed away and I think about them, too. Sometimes I think they were the card-sending generation, if that makes any sense. They loved doing the cards, more so than my generation, I think. Yet people are still sending cards out because the stores are full of holiday cards for people to buy. Somebody must be buying them.
