It's been years since I've had a cat. More than 15 years to be exact, so when it comes to my rescue kitty Oliver, I'm kind of left a little in the dark. I had a lot of spur of the moment purchases just to be sure his needs were met within the first few hours of me bringing him home. To my delight he adjusted very quickly to the litterbox and I've found food both he and I are happy with! Here is my dilemma: I am not satisfied with the litter we have been buying. I have differed between 3-4 different kinds since having him and it's been hard to find one we like.

1st - Fresh Step Unscented: It was okay and served the purpose we needed it to, but it did NOTHING for the strong scent of his poop.

2nd - Arm & Hammer Scented: I was reluctant to buy this one only because I was concerned the scent might be too much for Oliver, but he used it just fine and it did help with the overwhelming stink of his poop.

3rd: World's Best Cat Litter: This one made me nervous within the first few seconds I put it into the litterbox. Oliver likes watching me do anything when interacting with his litterbox so while I was adding the new litter he was right there watching me and was immediately able to interact with the new litter. He barely waited for me to level out the litter before stepping inside and sniffing around. I noticed he started licking/eating it and became nervous it wouldn't be good for him so I returned it.

4th: Tidy Cat Unscented: This is the current one I am using only because I had seen so many other people buying it and heard about it's power in decreasing odors. I don't know how I feel about it since it's not too impressive in concealing odors and it doesn't clump well. Oliver doesn't cover his poop well with the litter either so I'm definitely thinking of switching again.

The next time we go out I will probably switch back to Arm & Hammer until I find one that is good. I did like how this one clumped.

Some of my main concerns is the possible consumption of litter when cleaning himself because I am aware that it can stick between his paws. I also want to be sure it's low dust and very low tracking.

Thank you so much for your input! It is much appreciated.

I am currently using World's Best Cat Litter Advanced Natural Pine Blend. It does an awesome job at clumping; much better than Tidy Cat was doing previously.  However, Tidy cat did much better at covering odors, but it also had Glade in it.  As for being worried about his licking/eating it, there is a statement on WB's site that says: "When you switch litters, your cat may paw or even taste the new litter. This is normal! World's Best Cat Litter[emoji]8482[/emoji] is made from 100% natural corn and plant fibers, and won't harm your cat or kitten if they sample it." This post probably does not help you much, but just wanted you to not worry that he tasted the WB's litter. :)

How old is he? It's not a good idea to use clumping clay litters with kittens under 4 or 5 months old, because they might accidentally ingest some, and clay is digestible like World's Best is.

My favorite clay clumping lutter is Tidy cats with the black top. The scent isn't overpowering or obnoxious, and it clumps well.

I also like silica crystal litter. Walmart recently started selling one brand for a very good price, around $8 for 8 pounds. I believe that brane name is Fesh Results---it's also available on Amazon. > It lasts a long time and holds odors very well.
