So I feed my kitten mostly raw with a little kitten chow mixed in. I've tried chicken, liver, beef, but her favorite is chicken hearts and gizzards and that's what she's eating in this video. Her litter box has virtually no smell and that's a wonderful thing! I did buy canned wet cat food and she was very gassy and stinky! And the litterbox was stinky as well. Amazing how a good diet changes all that!

Hi maxine2016 maxine2016 ! Welcome to TCS :wavey:

It's wonderful that a mostly raw diet is working for your kitten so well :D She certainly seems to be enjoying it :yummy:

Welcome Maxine,

How great that your kitten is starting life off on the right foot with raw food. I know what you mean about the litter box. No smell is a great perk for raw feeding. No one can believe that I have three huge litter boxes that hold 50 lbs of litter each. Over the summer my step-son moved in . Several weeks later he asked if my cats just went to the bathroom outdoors ( I have cat fencing) I took him around and pointed out the huge litter boxes. He was shocked, he had seen them but thought they were just storage crates. He said he just never smelled the litter so he assumed the cats went to the bathroom outdoors.Looking forward to stories of your kitt!

That looks like one happy kitten! And yes, raw food is great for keeping down litter box odors.

I'm just curious, @Maxine2016, are you using a supplement to balance all the raw meat that you're feeding so she's getting full nutrition if that's her primary food source? (It doesn't sound like you're doing whole prey... or maybe I'm wrong?)

No, no supplements. Just the raw and a commercial kitten chow. Needless to say, she barely touches the kitten chow so sometimes I'll just have the chow and no raw....I feed her twice a day and pick up the food when she walks away...from what I can tell, she's growing very quick, certainly not skinny, too active lol, I can't wait 'til she's a 'cat'!

Yes, I can understand that she'd prefer the raw meat to the Kitten Chow! That said, though, are you feeding her a balanced prey model diet, so you can be sure she's getting enough nutrients? That's very, very important, especially for a growing kitten. If you're not feeding a planned prey model diet or using a supplement, the amount of unsupplemented food shouldn't be more than about 10% of a cat's diet.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, please do give a check to the summaries on the page that Columbine linked to: http://www.thecatsite.com/a/raw-feeding-cats-types-of-raw-diets-feeding-options

It summarizes the various kinds of balanced methods for feeding raw food.
