My 2 year old male cat has been sitting in either of their litter boxes all afternoon. If he isn't better by morning I will call my vet. Any advice until then? I hope I'm being cautious but he is my baby. Please help!

Sometimes cats sit in their litter because something in their environment is causing them discomfort. And they relive their discomfort by surrounding themselves in something that is full of their own scent- the litterbox. Assuming he isn't acting ill (not eating, having diarrhea running a fever or anything like that), he may just be bothered by something in the home.

Have there been any major changes in the home lately? Any loud noises, strong odors, other animals, anything out of the ordinary?

I have another cat and had to leave him while I was working but I came home to hI'm still in the box squatting like he is going pee. He has gotten out a few times but only to clean himself and go back and forth between the litter boxes

There was a dog in the house but she is here every few days. He is usually the one causing noise. He doesn't act like he's in pain but he isn't himself at all

That could very well be due to a urinary tract infection/blockage, which is an emergency. He needs to be seen by a vet ASAP.

There's no way of telling. Is there an ER vet you could call? Your regular vet may have a message on their answering machine informing you whom to contact outside regular office hours.
