Cat peeing little in the litterbox frequently

For the past month my cat has been making small frequently trips to the litter box and peeing a little. But the weird thing is I hear him pee normally and poo normally everyday. I'm not sure what it is. He's had something like this almost a year ago and the Vet told me it might be just an inflammation or stress. Is there a way to cure it without taking him to the Vet and spending the extra visit fee? Hes also eating and drinking normally too and very playful.
