Canned food-- besides Wellness-- to eliminate stinky poop

Our new shelter kitty (8months) has the stinkiest poop.  He clears the house when he uses the litter box.  I have considered parasites and will get him re-checked, but for now am trying different foods.  Wellness chicken made a huge difference in the smell (but not the consistency, still runny), but kitty doesn't really like it.  Other brands we've tried like Nutro and Blue Buffalo cause major stinkies.  Any other suggestions of a food to try that might have good results for him.  We have a Petsmart and PetCo locally.  Once I find something that works, I will order it online.

I'm relatively new at cat parenthood, but my brief experience tells me that your cat's tummy has a problem with some kind or flavor of food, the results of which create problems at the other end of the bowels, in the litter box. LOL.

In our case, duck pate made my gal's litter box an odoriferous virtual atomic bomb.  Grains could cause similar results, corn and wheat ingredients were eliminated from her diet, as was soy content.  Lamb gives her firm but somewhat odoriferous stools, too.  It's a process of elimination.  Try to make sure your pet gets enough water.

Ziwipeak, Feline Naturals,Tikicat, freeze dried raw food, those are probably the only foods that will help with smell because they contain little to no fillers.

You might even try adding in some probiotics to his food, which should help with his gut flora, but as TheGreyStalker mentioned, you really just have to do a trial by error type thing until you find the right food that works for him.  Something that not only helps with the smell, but also doesn't produce runny stools.   When you say "still runny", that sounds as if maybe he does have some sort of parasite or some ingredient doesn't agree with him, and you should try to narrow that down, if the parasite test comes back negative.

I'm no cat expert but my stinky/soft poop problem was recently solved by switching him to freeze-dried! i have the same issue with not being able to do raw food, so the freeze-dried seems to be a godsend, provided i can get him to consistently eat it. he's not a big fan.

I agree with both these posts! Our two cats poop about every other day, on average, not much comes out, and it barely smells. We feed them a combination of raw food (the bulk of it freeze-dried Feline Natural, Northwest Natural, and Primal, but also a small Rad Cat meal each day), homemade (1 meal a day of EZcomplete with various cooked meats), and canned (1 meal a day). Our cats both have somewhat sensitive, touchy stomachs but they do really well on this combination. The canned brands they get are Feline Natural, Rawz, Weruva, and Tiki. They get no carrageenan, potato, peas, grains, or other starchy fillers in any of their foods and I've reduced their intake of gums to just a couple cans (each split) per week. Their food isn't cheap but these cats have a lot of limitations because of their stomachs: they're Siamese mixes and they're apparently especially likely to have digestive fusses. I also can't say enough how glad I am that our cats prefer freeze-dried raw food to most frozen food (other than Rad Cat). Freeze-dried is incredibly convenient!

One other point, perhaps the most important: our cats' diet, which is part/more raw and part/less cooked and canned food, definitely shows that you don't have to feed all raw food to have less litter box smell. The main thing is that the foods not have fillers and (I suspect, since poop volume went down even more after I cut back on their foods with gums) as few thickeners as possible.
