I can't believe it's taken me this long to become a member of a cat forum!! I was born a crazy cat lady...I've always had cats, and have always felt a kinship and serious closeness with cats.

Anyways, our 6mo old rescued tuxedo kitten had to be put to sleep yesterday because of FIP. His name was Lord Fuzzypaws aka Kitty face or Kylo...and he wasn't a "pet"....he was my adopted fur baby, I have 2 little girls (ages 7 and 3) both of whom were VERY attached.
I was/am crushed, and we went out and adopted a kitten from our local shelter to help ease the pain and distract the girls (and myself really) . We figured since we didn't tell the girls that The Lord had passed (they knew he VERY VERY sick, so we told them the vet admitted The Lord to a special kitty hospital that can care to him properly...and we told them he isn't allowed visitors cause it isn't fair to the other sick cats who may not have family, so in a day or 2 we will tell them the doctor called and fuzzy passed in his sleep).

Ok...so that's a little of the back story behind why we have this kitten...we were gonna adopt another kitty before The Lord had gotten sick, but we were gonna do it after the holidays...so we got him a lil early.
Anyways...his name is Jefferson....and he's TINY!!!!!!! I am curious as to when it's OK to leave a Kitten home on their own. I'm a SAHM and am here all the time but occasionally when I take my human baby out to the library, park or such...that if I were to put him in a bathroom with all his necessities that he would be ok....we are never out long. In ALL MY YEARS of have cats I've never had this issue (I either didn't have kids. Or the cats I had weren't small...you get the idea)

I appreciate all advice and help. Thanks

I'm so sorry for your loss. :(  He should be ok in the bathroom for awhile. We love pictures here if you would like to post them!

What is worrying me -  Im not sure at this moment when Im still sleepy - if Fip is contagious.  I know people are afraid it is.   Talk with the vet too.

And IF so, its dangerous to have next kitten so soon.   Wash off everthing with a strong sterilizing fluid, alike virkon, used in stables and so...

I think the linked answer is good - and typical.   the virus isnt much contagious - or rather, the virus as such is common, but not even the evil muted virus is much contagious.

Its  outbursts are most common in young cats, and in multi-cats households - where possibly there is a higher stress pressure.

So the recommendation is, to diminish the risks, next  cat you take in, is an adult, healthy cat.  Whom is beyond the most dangerous age, and whose immune system is fully developed.
