Hey everyone I was wondering if anyone else has had problems with stitches on the outside of the incision coming out? It's only Sunday (she had surgery Friday) and she took 3 out yesterday so I got her a cone (which she has had on non stop except to eat then it goes right back on)then today I was checking out her incision and noticed 1 more stitch was out. I talked to the vet yesterday and they said she has internal stitches as well so she will be fine. I am a worry wart however so I was just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and could maybe help me calm down a lil. Thank you in advance for your replies ( hopefully I get some replies lol)

I had my cat spayed last year and within an hour she had taken the stitches out. It was late evening so I couldn't take her back to vets until following day. Luckily the wound hadn't opened. My vet told me the same( internal stitches). Five days later she removed them again but the vet said she was fine.

Check the wound is not open and is looking clean. As long as she is not bothering it she should be fine.

She has 2 left but I'm sure they will probably come out because the one end is not tied it was like 2 sets of 3 stitches. The incision is closed tho and it is NOT bleeding or red.

If sutures are still coming out then she is eithet being too active or she can still reach her incision with the e-collar on.

If your vet feels she is ok, I would keep a close eye on her, but not worry too much (I know, easier said then done!). I do suggest confining her either to a small room or a large wire dog crate for a few days to give her incision a chance to heal.

Typically if they are messing with their incision, the sutures have been tied too tight (not left a little lose to allow for normal swelling post-op.) This can cause the cat to lick/chew at the area and this is what leads to infection.

If the are looks red, feels warm to the touch, is weepy, the incision looks like it is opening or there is discharge, get her to the vet.

That's good. Keep the cone on her, check the wound stays clean and dry. If you are still concerned, pop her back to the vets. Cats heal quickly so try not to worry. She needs lots of cuddles.

The wound looks good, no infection, and unless the edges start to come apart and gape open, I would follow your vets advise and monitor. I've spayed many cats ( and had a nervous stomach on all!) and there incisions have opened even more than that and they were fine. It is still holding together, so should heal fine. I have never used a cone because I think it brings on more fear. There are many cats that go back to the wild a day or two later and they are fine, giving birth can bring on many more complications than spaying, you have spared her that. I'll pray for your little one, I know how scared we are when someone we care so much about goes through something like this, take a deep breath and know she is being monitored and taken care of by you, the person who knows and loves her the best!

Thank you all so very much! You have been a great help to my nerves! She seems OK this morning. She did how ever get another stitch out I took the cone off for her to eat and drink and I was standing right over her and she still got to the stitches. But it does look a little more closed today. I have to go back to work in like an hour and a half and that scares me because I have been home with her since Friday. So I hope she doesn't open that incision while I'm gone. I mean I have the cone on still but.... I worry way to much.
