This isn't a problem - just curious. Years ago we had a Persian with long, soft, flowing hair that would actually blow in the wind. My current 5 year old long-hair calico, Max, has very thick long hair that, while soft to the touch, sticks out all over the place. Though getting combed and brushed once or twice a day, five minutes later she looks like she's having a bad hair day. Is this common in domestic long-hair? Makes me wonder what breeds might be in the mix.

I really think it depends on the cat and genetics. i only have Persians, but I have some that have what I call cotton candy type hair,  while desirable for showing since it fluffs up with volume, it is a major pain and can look awful if not given daily attention. Some of my other cat shave silky floaty coats which are a dream to groom.

Thanks for the feedback. Max hair is incredibly thick, and 2 to 3 inches long, but could never be described as silky. She gets brushed daily, and even gets groomed professionally (bath, clipped, etc) every 2 months, but it doesn't make any difference. The next day she looks like she's been a fight. However, I've actually come to like her scruffiness. Wish I knew how to post a picture.

We'd love to see pictures too - go to Cat Pages on the top of the site and click on the Cat Pages Tutorial Facts & Questions.  Hope this helps!
