What is wrong with my cat's right eye?

There's some extra white showing in the right eye on the nose side. Here's a picture of it:

I woke up and it was like that. Sometimes he's out at night. Did it get poked/scratched?

Or is it nothing?

That's his third eyelid showing. This usually indicates a problem with their eye like an injury. How is he behaving? Normal?

Fairly normal. Maybe a tad mopey. He usually sleeps around this time so I can't really tell. He ate his whole breakfast as usual. Vet or no?

If this was my cat, I would be prepared to take him to the vet after keeping an eye on him for a day. I would also keep him inside tonight so he doesn't make it worse. It could just be a minor thing, but it's best to be prepared to get him in as you don't want it get infected/ I hope he's OK soon!

When you keep an eye on him for a day, what are you looking for that would make you take him in?
