My cat woke me and my partner up just over 2 hours ago because she was having her kitten. I quickly put her in her bed in a quiet room to make it easy for her. Her baby came out healthy but is it normal she only had 1?

It can take time (hours in some cases) between the births. Some females can have litters as small as one kitten. Rare, but it happens.
Thank you. I didn't know she was pregnant so this was kind of a surprise. I have been keeping an eye on her and the baby, they are both asleep.

Yes thankfully she has been feeding and cleaning the kitten. I was worried when she first gave birth that she wouldn't take care of the kitten.
Okay thanks I'll start looking.

Can you keep mom inside and away from intact males 100% of the time until the kitten is weaned? She can get pregnant again at any time.

And yes, single litters are normal. You may want to add a heating pad on low to half of the nest so that the kitten doesn't get cold if mom gets up.

My cats are meant to be inside only cats but they both got out a few weeks ago. I knew the other cat is pregnant she ran away this morning while I was running around looking for towels and I went outside and my other cat got out. But this cat is in the cat room, it's summer here so it's really really really hot and that room will always be warm.

Are you considering spaying them after these litters? It is very common for cats to get out when in heat as they can be escape artists. It's also a large strain on their bodies to go through heat cycles.

How pregnant do you believe your other cat is? If she's as far along as this one, it's very likely that she's gone out to have her babies outside. This is very dangerous! Can you work to find her?

We were meant to get them done ages ago but I forgot. My other cat is about ready to pop, I don't know where she could be and there is nothing I can do to get her babies back if she has them outside our house.

You really need to try to find her and the babies and bring them in.

We have no idea where she could be because we live near the bushland.

It's been about 7 hours and still one kitten. I don't think she will have anymore. My other cat probably won't be home for 2 days. I've tried looking for her before but I will never find her unless she wants to be found.

Re the nr 1.  It may be just one - quite probable, she  as you even didnt knew she was preg, she must have been barely enlarged - thus a very small litter.
But the advice what to do if unsafe - is to observe closely; if she is OK, no visible problems, happy with the already born kitten - you can wait and see.   Even if you KNOW there are more still inside.  Some occasional panting may occur - its usually the afterpains. Some redcolorued  discharge is common too.

Its first if you notice she IS in trouble - higher fever, paingint much, bleeding,  or long active pushing labor (not more than about30- 40 minutes) you contact the vet.

Re the nr 2.  If she is used to be much outside, she probably has immunity and endurance above average, almost in niveu with the succesfull semiferales.  So hopefully she will manage birthing them alone, and raisning them up alone, and come home with them when they are 6-8 weeks.

But that its not optimal.  Its much better and safer to have her and the kittens inside....

It depends of course a little on the overall situation.   If you alike many traditional farmers drown the kittens as soon they are born, she know this instinctively, alike many farm cats, and makes sure to deliver them in some safe place, ie outside.  Hoping the farmer will show mercy to bigger kitten.

But if she trusts you, she will try to deliver them at home.   As your nr 1 did.

The only safe solution is to spay them, of course.   :)

Thank you, my first cat (we'll call her mumma because she had a baby) has always been a good cat she got out a few weeks ago but had no interest in the outside world.

My other cat I knew for sure is pregnant as you can feel little movements inside. She likes being outside and I wish she was here so her and the babies are safe from anything out there. I have asked someone near by if they have seen her today but they haven't yet. So it's just a waiting game for my pregnant cat to come home with the babies still in her or just to feed her and let her stay outside till I can find out where she's had them.

My other cat came home about half an hour ago, she seems to look the same and her belly still looks big.

OK, so please hold her inside this time now when she IS back and inside!    also, I dont know if you have any prey animals, dingos, foxes, mean boys, whatever.  A high preg is an easy catch for them...

Make a couple of suitable nests. She probably wont use them as yet, but she will be happy to know they are there waiting for her...

Rub her tummy if she allows and wants. It helps with the process, and is also a nice massage.

Thank you, I have spent the last hour making sure she can't get out anywhere and have put her in a different room so she doesn't annoy my other cat that just had the kitten. I'm not going to be home for 7 hours tomorrow because of work but my partner will be here for most of the time to keep an eye on them until he has to go to work. So if she has her kittens tonight or tomorrow she has everything she needs, lots of food and lots of water and always 2 different types of nests where she can have the kittens.

sounds good!  :)   If the cats are good friends, it may be OK to let them be together, if they clearly wish it / doesnt mind.  This is even quite common they do cooperate. Even some males may do it.

But if they arent best friends, or in any other way annoying each other, its best to kept them separated.  Mommas peace of mind comes always first!

They get along well most days, just don't know how my other cat will act when she sees the kitten.
