What I want to know is there another good antibiotic , that I can get by just buying it myself. No prescription. Fix Mox makes the cat sick. It seems like it is really hard on her.

No. If you think your cat needs antibiotics you need to see a vet. Do not haphazardly give antibiotics. Your cat may need a tooth pulled or something else entirely that antibiotics wont fix.

Ok then the whole story, We did take it in and they diagnosed it as stomatitis. They told us all the bad news what goes with it. And the normal story from people I've talked to and wrote to, tell  of dentist taking a tooth at a time, when they are allergic  to all their teeth not one or two. It generally only can be fixed with pulling all the teeth but we know the reason why they pull one or two at a time. So we didn't and never will have the thousands of dollars that is needed to have all her teeth pulled out. So we asked the doctor what we could do to keep it alive without suffering all the time.  He said Antibiotics and Steroids, so we bought them from them and when they ran out we asked if we could get more ,sure they said as long as you bring it in again. Which of course would make that a monthly ride that this cat hates to do ,This person that only wants money and tried to force us into this massive expense. Thats all these animal doctors want.  Fish Mox is used all across the country for animals  and all I've read about it says that it is a good product. If you can supply proof that I'm wrong than please do.

Have you contacted other vets for an estimate for a full-mouth extraction? That sounds awfully high. Our cat had all his molars extracted a week ago for a total of €420 ($446), and that included antibiotics and pain meds. Yesterday's follow-up check cost €40 ($42.46), including more antibiotics.

I do think you should look for another vet. Antibiotics aren't a long term solution.

It's the only solution other then putting her down, We don't have the thousands of dollars that it will cost to extract all her teeth and even at that , The extraction may not resolve the problem. She is a beautiful Animal and we love her but we are retired and have a small income.  There are many people like us with income that won't allow us to bring in a cat monthly to get antibiotics and steroids , especially when they already diagnosed that.  That group uses Fish mox and I support that totally. If someone has a like problem as we do. I would advise them to do some research on this Product and then decide for themselves and if you ask your vet he/she will probably tell you a line of BS for obvious reasons.

Have you tried speaking to other vets?

I'm not really sure why you're being told it will cost "thousands" of dollars to have all her teeth pulled, unless you're in another country. As others have said, you need to find another vet, and work on either using a credit card or care credit or borrowing funds or using a payment plan at a vet. She NEEDS her teeth pulled, period. Long term antibiotics are not the cure and are not solving the problem. Any vet that told you this was an appropriate solution is not a good vet.

Antibiotics can help if there's a secondary infection, but stomatitis isn't a bacterial infection so they're of limited use for long-term. Using steroids long-term is an option---it's not good for them but you gotta do what you gotta do, and it's better than putting them down right away. And predisolone is fairly cheap. Most vets will let you get refills of pred, there's no reason for them to see her every month. For legal reasons they only need to see the animal once a year. So try to find a vet who will write prescriptions, so you can get pred refills at Walmart (or whatever pharmacy you prefer).

As far as fish antibiotics go, you can get just about any antibiotic OTC, sold for fish or birds. But like I said, it's not going to work for long.
