Hi there I have had my cat for about a year now, I found it under my sisters car last december. for the longest time I thought it was a girl.  I took her to get spayed and the vet calls to tell me that she was a he and already neutered.

Don't feel alone!!  We would occasionally see our neighbor's cat (2 houses down) that she would let outside sometimes on pretty days....we would see it lying on our porch in the sun, it would visit for about an hour and head home.  This went on for 2 summers, and we called our lovely visitor Miss Kitty.

Turned out his name was Tigger.....HIS name....my husband saw a neighbor lady at the store one day and she asked him if he had seen her cat Tigger any time lately, that he was disappearing for long periods of time and she wasn't letting him out anymore....hubby explained we had a Miss Kitty that visited and described her.....it was indeed Tigger!  Poor Tigger!!!  I apologized to him the next time we saw him!

Similar story for us, not the gender mixup, but the owner mixup.  A grey and white cat showed up just after new people moved in next door.  We thought he was theirs, they thought he was ours.  Turned out he was neutered, declawed and possibly purebred Manx as he had no tail, the long back legs and the distinctive rabbit like fur.  Until he jumped into my lap one day we had no idea if he was male or female.  I found a home for him.

Welcome to TCS!  I had a similar experience.  There was a beautiful delicate cat that I decided to take in.  Surely this delicate beauty was a female!  I had a female name picked out.  I kept her/him inside for a night before I took the cat to be neutered and vaccinated.  The cat sprayed.  And the next day I found out it was definitely a he!
