So late yesterday afternoon, one of my three indoor cats decided to do a magic trick and disapear on us. We searched everywhere for him, we later started looking outside, where we seen him running away. It got really late so we went back in inside and around 2 am we heard loud meows, like something was hurting it. My dad ran to the backyard where what look like a raccoon, skunk or another cat was in a brawl for a few seconds before they both ran off. We haven't seen him since and we are worried that he is eaither too hurt to return home or doesn't know how to get back. Please recommend things we can do because we're running out of ideas.

You could do a grid search. Get a few friends to help comb the area.

Sorry to hear your cat is missing @moistHippo

If he is usually an indoor cat he won't have gone far. When cats find themselves in an unfamiliar environment their instinct is to hunker down in a hiding place and wait.

Were there any signs that he was badly hurt? Blood or chunks of fur in the spot the fight occurred?  If not he's probably just a bit clawed up and scared.

He'll be hiding in some small, difficult to access spot. Get a torch so you can see his eyes shining and check under porches, wood piles, sheds and outhouses anywhere a cat could squeeze into.

Normally Id recommend leaving food out for him, but if there are other animals in the area this isn't a good idea. You could wait until evening when it's quiet out and walk around with a bag of treats or an open can of food and call him. Leave his litter box outside your door so he can smell his way back home.

Good luck, please keep us posted.

Most radio stations have a free lost and found for pets, or get on one of those buy and sell radio programs and describe your cat and where he disappeared.I have had great luck with these programs. I'm sure he is scared and hiding out, Just keep walking around calling, especially early in the morning when it is quiet. I'll pray that he finds his way back home. I have had cats disappear for at least a week before they show back up, so don't give up!

Thanks for the help, it's been two days now and still haven't seen him at all. My dad did mention that when he went to the back yard, it smelt a bit like skunk. We're just worried that he is hurt and can't find his way back. Btw I live in a huge neighbourhood with a lot of houses, so looking under every porch and dark spot...would be impossible. I'll try the litter box idea!
Thanks again.

He is neutered, and is still good on shots. We recently went looking in backyards...still nothing, not even a single meow.

Don't know if you have a garage door. When my Siamese went missing, someone told me to leave his litter box on the outside of the garage, then open the garage door just enough for him to crawl under. It worked. My cat was in the garage the next morning. Good luck. I know how scary it is to have a pet leave home.

Hi @moistHippo  Any sign of your cat yet?

I don't think being a Bengal will make him act any differently, but it will make him easier for people to spot. He will stand out against the rest of the cat population. Have you put up lots of posters with his picture on?

I just wanted to say don't give up. One of my cats had been missing for 6 weeks but she found her way home today.

I hope your boy is safe and comes back to you soon.

Nope, still nothing. I've been told by many people that cats tend to come home after awhile, so I'm not giving up on him.

Hi MoistHippo,
I'm so sorry your cat is missing. I too had a cat who was attacked by a dog. I saw it happen and saw my cat take off running afterwards. I immediately went outside to find him but he never responded to my calls. The next day I went searching for him and found him, alive thankfully, hiding in an impossibly small space. He had somehow wedged his battered body between a fence and a small shed.
He would not come out however so I had to physically pull him up by his scruff. It was traumatic but I learned that you have to rescue these poor traumatized animals because they are so terrified at this point that they are unable to move.
Crawl around in your hands and knees if necessary because a cat can hide in a very small space. He/she will probably not come running if their injuries are severe enough. It will be most probably up to you to find them.

Good luck:) But don't give up!

MoistHippo I also wanted to mention a story of another kitty I knew who found some misadventure after falling 5 stories from a high rise building.
Tonic fell off her owners balcony and was missing for 3 full days. I went over to my friends to help search for her and I found her. After crawling around on my hand and knees and looking at the world from her perspective I came across a small hole in the ground which was obscured by a large tree. There she was sitting at the bottom of this tiny space 4 feet below the surface. Another friend held my legs and lowered me down into the hole. I grabbed Tonic by the scruff and hoisted her up and out. She was severely dehydrated and suffered a broken upper palette plus multiple bruises. She made a full recovery.
This is just another story which illustrates how these poor animals may not be able to come home no matter how desperately they might want to:)

Recently I've been worried because not only is my cat outside without a collar(he has a chip inside him) but its been extreamly cold lately and we are worried he might freeze! We're running out of ideas and looking for him ourselves is almost impossible! Is there anyone we can call it help us search for him?

Please respond soon, I'm really worried.

MoistHippo that's very distressing, I'm so sorry. You don't say why you are unable to look for him yourselves but I'd recommend calling your friends and family to ask for help to physically search for your kitty. It's going to take that kind of support to find him.

Like I said it's been really cold these past few days and going out there more than 30 mins is really hard. We have no idea where to even look for him. I heard about something called a Pet Detective, would anyone recommended that?

I'd do some research on the Pet Detective before calling them.  I recall that someone did find their pet with them but I can't tell you what article I read that in.  I hope they are legit and that you get your kitty back home!

I've been doing some research for a past few days and people are all suggesting using a humane trap to get him. I haven't seen him since I lost him and my whole family is wondering if that's even a possibility of getting him, since he doesn't come around. He is super skittish even inside the house, so we don't know if he'll ever leave is hiding spot. I'm going into a mini depression state with this whole situation and I WILL do anything at this point to get my baby back home. Every time I see this picture I wana cry. :;(

I"m so sorry!

So I'm guessing you've put up posters already?  It might help too if you put REWARD on the posters.  Don't say the amount on the sign though.

A humane trap is a good idea!  Put his favorite food in there.

Yes, I have put up poster and it has "Reward" on it, but not the amount. I spent a few hours doing that today. I will look into the humane trap tommorow.
