Welcome to my nightmare.

We have three cats. Sally (10), Todd (3), and Charlie (7 months).

About a month ago, I started noticing soft stools in their litter boxes. First, Sally, then Todd, then all three of them got it.

No other symptoms, all still using the box, eating, drinking, and playing.

I called the vet and they said to bring in the one who was the sickest. Todd seemed more miserable about it, so I brought him in with a stool sample.

The vet said everything looked okay but gave us some dewormer for all three. She also gave us some fortiflora and gastro food.

Gave the cats the dewormer and the food, and they all cleared up. Stool sample turned out negative for worms, so the vet told me to transition them back to their old food. They eat PC brand hard food and Fancy Feast wet food.

Fast forward to last week, Todd starts having runny stools again. No other symptoms. I picked up some more fortiflora yesterday. Now I wake up to Sally having it too. Sally is very picky about where the litter box is, and since we live in an apartment we are limited to where we can keep them, so she consistently poops directly in front of the box. This is gross, but we're used to it. But not with the loose stools - it's just awful.

All three cats are in good health otherwise and are inside cats. I really can't afford to take them all into the vet ($60/visit).

Is there anything I can do to make this go away? I'll share the fortiflora with Sally today. None of them really like pumpkin. I feel like it might be their food, but I switch up their food all the time and there has never been an issue. What would be affecting all of them if it's not worms? TIA

this is probably food related. Either a bad batch of food or a food that didn't agree with them. I would throw out any kibble you were using when this issue started. I'm not sure what "PC" dry food is, but I would cut out the dry food as kibble is loaded with fillers that can cause digestive issues. If you can, feed 100% wet food and mix in a good probiotic. Feed an easy to digest wet food like Fancy Feast classic pate only, or sheba pate, something that isn't loaded with fillers. Fortiflora isn't really a good probiotic. Here's a list of human ones you can use for pets. I use nexabiotics for my own cats. You can also use a digestive enzyme and mix in their wet food, this is a good one too.

So this all started back up when you put them on their old food again?  HAD you completely stopped using the FortiFlora also when it started back up?

My Vet recommends I use FortiFlora when any of mine of soft stools, and it DOES work for that issue.  I also always give them a better probiotic daily, mixed in with their wet food, so I completely agree with everything Missmimz says
