Our cat has started hissing and growling at nothing and biting his tail.

Would it better to put him to sleep? (FHS) No one can touch him when he doing this we are very worried. Thank you.

You are asking in regards to your personal cat?

If yes, can you please give us more information on his age, history, what types of medication you have tried.

No one other than you can decide when is the right time to say goodbye to a pet. What we here can do is offer support and suggestions to discuss with your vet; or, direct you to a new vet/specialist that can assist you.

hi and welcome to TCS!

am i understanding correctly that your cat is experiencing these symptoms? if so, i'm so sorry that your boy is having these symptoms.

have you discussed this with your veterinarian? i would suggest reading up on feline hyperesthesia, and then discussing with your vet if this might be what your boy is experiencing.

we're here for you, for support and to help in any ways we're able to.

Well it would be the easiest option ! sopose it depends on how much you value your cat ? have you actually been to a vet with him?

It would be a shame to put a cat to sleep when you havent done so , apoligise if you have ,

there are blood tests to see if maybe your cat has another problem ,hyper  thyroidism i think its called , i may be wrong on the actual name of it but it does have similar symptoms as fhs

there are meds which your vet could try , ask about the gabapentin , its cheap and it helps a lot , how old is your cat ,mine started at 6 weeks she was terrible at the time but now she is almost normal , i just make sure she is never hungry which means  i feed her little and often that she her mood seems to stay level , if she is stressed it can appear but not as bad as it was

Try to get some advise from a vet before you take such a drastic step ,
