So I've been feeding a feral cat -named him Caspar since last February.   Managed to trap him once- was given all shots, and clean bill of health.  Vet said he war around 5 years old but couldn't neuter him because he had a descended testicle.

Long story short- we had developed a relationship-- fed him evening and mornings at times as needed.  Even my three female cats grew to tolerate him.

Haven't seen him since October 15th and am just heartbroken... any words of wisdom?

I am very sorry that your sweet one is missing.  Yet since he is not neutered he will be fueled by his hormones.  He will be in search of a female.  Unaltered males can wander for miles and miles.  I once cared for a feral tom who I had a heck of a time trapping.  Before I was able to trap him, he took off and did not return for 5 months.  I was certain something awful had happened.  So don't give up hope.

If he comes back, is it possible to find another vet who might neuter him?  I do think it is more complicated thus more expensive, but it might be worth it.

I so hope Caspar returns soon.  I know the worry and sadness.

My husband feeds a male feral. He disappears for months, but always comes back. It's the call of the wild. I'm sure Caspar will make his way back to you.

Usually when the mating season ends they find their way back.  Since he is a feral boy, he knows how to hunt and care for himself.  If he does return, you might really want to find a vet to neuter him.  His desire to get outside (yowling and clawing at the door) are his hormones in action.  Once you neuter him and the hormones settle down ( this can take up to 6 weeks after neuter), he will feel so much better about being inside.  Some neutered cats still express the interest in wandering after neutering as this was a part of their life.  Yet many settle down and want to just be an inside kitty.

Had he ever wandered off like this before?

Our one feral cat would disappear for a couple of weeks then show up fine as could be. I hoping for you that you will see him soon.
