I knew the members of this wonderful forum might get a kick out of my "simple Halloween decoration project" that got a little out-of-control...(but in a good way)....

We have 4 indoor rescue kitties and currently care for 5 ferals that we TNR'd ....so each of the two big pumpkins holds a baby pumpkin that looks like every member of each "gang." Four of our ferals are solid greys (Sookie, Cody, Aspen & Brady), and the fifth, Crosby, is black with bright green eyes. Their pumpkins all got appropriate ear tips ;) Our indoor gang of 4 includes our tiny ex-feral Flick (who's a solid grey cousin of the outside guys-so she's also ear tipped), black & white Bowie (my avatar), Jo (a sweet grey & white), and Moo, a pleasingly plump white girl with a little salt & pepper "skull cap." (Baby pumpkin size directly relates to girth of actual cat...so Moo is the biggest baby pumpkin!).

The "pumpkin kitty families" were a big hit with the trick-or-treaters---with the highlight of the night being when Sookie and Crosby wandered up on the porch & sat next to the pumpkins! Of course squeals of delight from a trio of trick-or-treaters sent both kitties running for the hills for the evening :)

So creative!!  My little Trick or Treaters would have loved it.  My four ferals hide under the deck the entire 2 hours.  My indoor 2 hide upstairs far away from the front door!

Oh, those are great! How did you make them? Are they just painted pumpkins? How did you do the whiskers?

I feel a little ashamed of my Halloween decoration now I've seen yours, but I'll put it here anyway.

Thanks guys!!! I really did get a kick out of the final result.

I think @Norachan your decorations look great! That's a lot of work--and I really love black and orange luminaries at the base--I'm stealing that next year to put down our sidewalk!!! And @ShadowsRescue -- Sookie and Crosby stunned us coming onto the porch while hordes of kids came by (we get about 125-150 kids every year!). Sookie has made enormous progress in the year the 5 have been here.

The 2 big pumpkins are fake hollow ones that we cut the "lids" off of. The 9 little ones are real "baby pumpkins" (actually, gourds). I first painted them all with acrylic paint to match each kitty. The eyes are thumbtacks spray painted flat black (except Crosby's eyes, which are painted green to match his eyes and stand out from the black). The noses and ears are cut out of construction paper (I "ear tipped" all of our TNR'd guys). The noses are glued on, and the ears are stuck into slits that are cut into the little pumpkins. The whiskers are black wire ( I used the thumbtacks to first poke holes to put the wire into).

I then stuffed the big hollow pumpkins with crumpled newspaper, and topped that off with crumpled black tissue paper to hide the newspaper. and then put the little kitties on top!

I wish now the little "pumpkins" were fake too, since we liked the way this whole thing turned out- & now if we want to do this again next year I'll have to repaint all new little ones :(

Oh, they were easy. Strips of coloured paper taped around old glass jars with tea-light candles inside.

I really like you ideas. I'm going to try something like that next year.

I wish it could be Halloween every day.

Think how cool your paper strips could be for Christmas Eve, NYE, etc. - - - - We made these elaborate luminaries for Halloween - - and yours were WAY cooler! I'm "stealing" your idea for every holiday where someone has to come up our steps/walkway in the dusk/dark!

Thanks for the good words too - - -I should post what our cat pumpkins look like now - - we're getting ready to sadly toss them. Sookie's head is collapsing a bit :)
