Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I'm new to the site and I'm still trying to figure it out.
I took my kitten to the vets almost 3 weeks ago and they treated her for worms. The vet failed to mention that she should be dewormed every 2 weeks! So of course she has worms again/still? I have no idea!
My question is: Is there an over the counter worm medication that I could purchase at a pet supply store (NOT Walmart) that will actually work the same as the pill the vet gave? Or should I just make an appointment to get her another pill?
I don't understand why the vet wouldn't have just given me the second dose to give her in two weeks time!?

Yes, its common they need to be dewormed again 2 or 3 weeks later.  It depends a little on what dewormer the vet used.

Do you know what dewormer the vet used?   And what worms its now?   I suppose they are roundworms - kittens do usually have them, if they arent from properly dewormed mommas...   But kittens may also have tapeworms, if they had fleas - as fleas are often a middlehost for tapeworms.

OK, there is a couple of good and safe all round dewormers;  Milbomax and Drontal.   These take both roundworms and tapeworms.

There are also OTC preparates against roundworms - these shall contain Pyrantel (pyrantel poaomate)¨¨

Its wise, if you find the preparete you plan on, you google on it - or ask here.  Because some  firms arent as reliable as others.  So even a preparate using the trustworthy  Pyrantel as active ingredient, may perhaps addes something which isnt that good for cats.   Or the industry as such has an uneven quality control...

There are also other types of worms, but these above are the most common.

So for example, Panacur takes most of them worms and parasites, but its a "horse medicine", you must be really healthy to manage it...

Wow!Thats alot of info[emoji]128522[/emoji]Thank you. We took care of the fleas, and the ear mites. So now its just worms. I've been trying to keep an eye on my other cats. I havent seen any evidence of worms in them yet...but I haven't again from Dinah either!
Soooo I should probably deworm them all shouldn't I? They use thecsame litterbox, and they clean her. They love her to pieces![emoji]128571[/emoji] That part makes me happy [emoji]128522[/emoji] I just want my babies better [emoji]128533[/emoji]

I think you should ask your vet for worm medicine. Call to see if you can just pick it up. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

I tried asking them for it and of course they said no...uggg...they need to know her weight. I'd weigh her myself but my bathroom scales wouldn't register her...could sneak her into the grocery store and put her on the banana scales!....just kidding. Lol

Can you stop by the vet with her? They should be able to weigh her quickly and for free, and sell the worm medicine to you.

Ok so, Kizmitt went to the vets and its as we suspected...kitty cold, feline herpes. We have medicine(s) to give him so i am feeling much beter about that! [emoji]128516[/emoji]
Dinah is going to the vet on Friday, where she will get another worm pill, and her needles. I read all the wonderful info/comments that people wrote & thank you very, very much! I just decided to allow the experts take care of my little girls worm problem. I hear so many horror stories of wrong meds, too much, too little, allergic reactions... I just couldnt chance it. Especially after what happened with her sister Rose.
I feel like a pain with all these questions but, can anyone tell me what the best soft kitten food is? She needs some serious fattening up! Not too fat though[emoji]128521[/emoji]

I think you are wise to take your cats to the vet.

My cats like Fancy Feast, which comes in many flavors and textures.

Pet stores have a great variety of wet food brands to choose from. Sometimes you have to try more than one to see what your cats prefer.

I went to the vets and got Royal Canine kitten food. I wanted to be sure she gets the nutrients and fat that she needs. Shes not a very big girl! Last visit to the vet she was 10 weeks and just over a pound. We are hoping that with the worms soon to be gone and good food, she'll plump right up. My 2 older cats like Friskies. We bought Dinah Purina kitten chow, she won't eat the hard kitten food...she wants to eat what big brothers are eating. Thats why I REALLY want to make sure that the soft food is of good quality. I might try mixing the hard kitten food with the soft? See how that goes!

Yeah, that isnt much.  usually they are twice that at this age.

Of Royal Canine, another good tip is called "mother and babycat". full fat goats milk is always OK to use as supplement.   If you dont have problems with salomonella in eggs so add the yolk of egg now and then....  some nice vitamine paste may be useful
