Hi. I was reading threads about UTIs and it really helped a lot and made me feel a whole lot better but I have some pressing questions to ask:(

I have a 3 year old mix mainecoon and Persian and was just diagnosed with UTI. He wasn't peeing for 1 whole day before we decided to bring him to the vet as we thought it was constipation:( he was really distressed and we only brought him to the vet 12 hours after he vomited his food and refused all food. Really stupid of us:(
His creatinine and glucose levels were sky high and the vet warned us that he might develop Chronic kidney failure and we were so freaked out. His bladder was drained and he had a catheter inserted. The vet then sent us home without a urine bag and told us to monitor him for 4 days. He also had medications prescribed.
Louis has been eating and drinking some and we force feed him water to make sure he is taking in >250ml water daily. It has been day 2 and the pee is still a bit bloody:( he is also losing a lot of weight although we are feeding him 2.5 wet food per day (the flatter kind). Should I be worried about his bloody pee? And how should his progress be? Would he really develop chronic kidney failure from this?? Please help:(

When my cat Ducky had urinary blockage he had a catheter in for 3 days and even after it was removed he did still have some blood in his urine. From what my vet said it's normal. My cats blockage was from a buildup of crystals/stones and I only feed him canned hills prescription diet c/d for cats now and as long as he only eats that he is completely healthy with no issues. I hope your kitty feels better soon

Are you to take him back today and get his blood retested to see if his creatinine has lowered?  I'm guessing that's why the Vet was saying it could develop into kidney failure, although that doesn't mean instant death...believe me, I've had 3 kidney cats.

Let's talk again after you've taken him back in and gotten a re-evaluation.  Hoping Louis is a LOT better now.

Yup we brought him back to remove his catheter! The vet just pumped water into his bladder a few times until it was clear. They found more crystal's that caused the blockage and warned us that there might be more. The vet didn't order another blood test though! We thought it was quite odd but when we questioned her, she said there wasn't a need to? Louis is much better now and can pee on his own! The cone is just kept on to prevent excessive licking of his genitals! Thanks so much for the concern:)
