EVERYONE WHO HAS A CAT THAT DOES THIS.... What dry food do you feed your cat? I am curious because I have had this same problem with my girl, Sweets. Also a cat I brought in from outside. She didn't do it in the beginning... it was starting to drive both her and I crazy. Poor thing. I read that it was important to maintain an eating schedule. So I did that. I also changed what I was feeding her. Well, I'll be damned. It stopped. But then I lost my job and hadn't been on a schedule myself. Ended up grabbing a different bag of dry cat food by accident, and all of a sudden, it started up again. I don't know if it was the change in routine, my not being home as often, or this God-forsaken dry cat food. But she had thrown up on 3 seperate occasions with that dry cat food in her vomit. I had tried changing her wet food, no changes took affect. Just thee other day, I picked up a different bag of dry food. Already she has hardly attacked her tail. I am praying to God that it is the cat food and she can rest easy again. Anyway, sorry for the rambling, but I'm hoping this helps. Feel so terrible for them. Can't imagine how frustrating that would be.... PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT DRY FOOD YOU FEED YOUR CAT!! I am hoping it's thee answer to this problem [emoji]9829[/emoji][emoji]9829[/emoji][emoji]9829[/emoji] (((big hugs))) fellow feline lovers [emoji]9829[/emoji][emoji]9829[/emoji][emoji]9829[/emoji]

Hi

Sorry your having a bad time of it , will your cat not eat wet food ,? dry food isnt the best diet for any cat to be honest as its not in a cats nature to drink enough and its hard on their kidneys and liver , grain free food is the way to go if you can afford it , must say that at first i fed my girl natures menu which was great for her until she got bored and stopped eating it , then she would eat the stuff fron home bargains cant remember the name of it nbut its black and yellow with a cats eyes on it (pouches ) which was also grain free and quite cheap , then she stopped eating that , then hi life pouches again from home bargains , got bored with that , she is now eating sheba pouches again only the gravy ones , to say my cat if a fussy little sod would be an understatement , but i cant let her go hungry as she starts to twitch and gets too interested in her tail , i did for a while get chicken and very lightly cooked it in water and then added taureen which a cat needs or it will go blind , its added to all cat foods ! but again she got bored lol !! she is doing ok at the moment though , has your cat ever got realy bad ? at her worst she was on 20mg of gabapentin twice a day as she really damaged her tail was alucinating and was very wobbly !! it did help her at the time , she isnt on it now but i have it in in case she goes downhill x

I feed my cat wet food everyday, but she snacks on dry food. Since I changed dry food, she has been fine. I honestly think it was the brand of dry food I was giving her. I only posted in hopes to help others with it. I really think it was the dry food I got her. I won't be buying it ever again. She was fine all day yesterday and today, so far so good. Thee only thing I changed was the dry food. I will keep everyone posted on what happens going forward, but I truly feel it may be this type of dry food.

Food won't make a cat's personality change. I've only had one cat do this, and it was a result of her chasing and biting her own tail. That was due to stress in the house hold. Animals are like radar and if there is a problem going on or high stress, they will sense it.

Food is food. If a cat is not fond of a food, they won't eat it, but they won't hiss or growl. I would seek veterinary assistance just to make sure your kitty is ok and not suffering from something neurological.

Well... day 3. My cat hasn't been attacking her tail at all. Not once. Thank you for your input, but I'm chalking it up to the food. Nothing else has changed.

Yes. Food can absolutely do this to a cat. My boy has food allergies and intolerances. It is very difficult to find foods that he can and will eat due to his extreme finickiness. Switching dry foods has to be done very slowly and methodically. I am so sorry that you are in this boat! It is very stressful.

My boy will run around howling. He can get very aggressive as well. He is the most docile cat. However, food can make him attack me or his "sister." My vet suggested Zyrtec, which has helped him a lot. He does better when changing wet food vs dry.

I had to figure out common ingredients in the foods that caused him problems. I prefer limited ingredient diets because there are less ingredients, which can bother him. He has problems with peas, which make it very difficult since many cat foods have peas. He does not tolerate fish. He has issues with blueberries. Food allergies and intolerances are becoming a bigger problem for pets.

I hope your kitty feels better soon! :vibes:

Don't think it's the food. Sure nothing has changed in the house? It could be even something tiny, like the presence of a new visitor, music, what your researching on pc, renovations in the home, an antique new in the home, etc. In other words, spiritual. God gave animals heightened senses we cannot begin to understand. Not everything is logical. It's not supposed to be. That's why the word mystery exists. Animals go with their gut instincts. They are more trustworthy than humans in my opinion. If your cat is hissing & growling, it is doing it for a reason. Something is amiss YOU can't put your finger on, but your CAT can. Simply take a stand against it, tell it has NO POWER IN YOUR HOME. And most of all, MEAN IT! Best advice you can get!
