Our vet diagnosed out cat with kidney disease recently. They said the results were pretty bad HE has lost alot of weight but still eats regularly. We're not sure what do do about it. THEY said he would stop eating but has yet to do so. Is it possible to be misdiagnosed? HE'S lost about 4 pounds since february...

Did the vet speak to you about sub-q fluids?  This is something you can give at home.  You can also feed different foods that are lower in phosphorus.  There is also phosphorus binders you can add to the food.  All this can help improve your cat's wellbeing and numbers.  Cats with CRF can live years.

Very helpful information on this website:  http://www.felinecrf.org/

It's not probably this he was misdiagnosed if they ran a blood test and his BUN and Creatinine were both high, or they did some other testing that was outside the normal range.

Some cats do lose their appetites pretty quickly, and others don't.  But it's concerning that he's lost those four pounds.  Is he eating LESS?  If not, then there has got to be some reason, and it might be something called proteinuria.  This section of the above referenced website discussed it:http://www.felinecrf.org/diagnosis_urinalysis.htm#proteinuria (click on the proteinuria link from the left column)

When you say you are not sure what to do about the CRF, did your Vet offer you ANY advise?  I've had three kidney cats, and Tamu708 has had at least one, so we can help if we know a little more, like what symptoms your little one is currently experiencing, what his BUN and Creatinine are, etc.  Is he throwing up at all?  What other health issues does he have?

All of our cats lived several years with this, so there may be hope for him yet

Did the vet give you an treatment options or advice on how to manage your cat's CRF for the time being?
