I also think you should show these pictures to the vet too.  I am not a vet but based on personal experience from going through an infection years ago with one of my cats the swelling and redness can be signs of an infection even if the area is not warm to the touch.  In the picture I also see a spot of yellow but I can not tell if that is something left over from the surgery or a tiny bit of puss from a small area that may be trying to drain.  Please communicate with your vet tomorrow.  If it is an infection the sooner you get it treated the better and less painful for your cat.  An infection may not go away without antibiotics..

I was wondering since this is my first kitten what exactly could be in the infected part of her belly. What could be in the bump?

When I suspect that a member of my family --human or animal-- has some kind of infection,

I make sure they are getting a dose of Virgin Coconut Oil with every meal, and also an application to the skin when that is warranted . . .

"Coconut Oil in Your Pet's Diet"

- Dr. Karen Becker DVM discusses the importance of coconut oil in your pet's diet.

"Coconut Oil Bandage: Heal Injuries And Infections At Breakneck Speeds"

The mineral silica / silicon is also very beneficial for most tissues, especially skin, and food grade Diatomaceous earth is very high in water soluble silica:

Coconut oil is just oil. None of the claims Dr. Becker or others make about its healing properties is evidence-based, I'm afraid. Personally, I think the Mercola website is entirely commercial and I wouldn't trust it as a source for anything relating to my health or the health of my pets.

For cats, coconut oil just fat. It's not dangerous per se, but it does add calories from a plant source to their diet which in some cats would cause weight gain. If done in excess, the cat could get full on that, missing out on the important nutrients it needs from animal-sourced food. As we all know, cats are obligate carnivores, and coconut oil is just not a natural part of their diet. There are zero proven benefits to the immune system, or any other health benefit to cats.

Hard to tell. The immune system reacts to the cut itself and that can be just fine and goes away. It could also be an infection though. Why not call your vet? He/she performed the surgery and follow-up should be included in the price. I agree with others about showing them the photo and see what they say. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

A bump is normal---that's the body's reaction to the internal sutures. The redness shown in the OP is not normal and probably indicates infection. I don't know how it turned out for the OP's kitty. If yours just has a lump she should be OK, but if the incision is angry red like that you should talk to the vet.
