...with the cats...
good afternoon!

lately, i've been thinking a lot about cookies, home baked cookies.
i'll be baking some oatmeal peanut butter cookies for some Christmas gifts this year -- and some for myself, as i absolutely love them. and will be baking some carob chip cookies too, coming up soon.

so with cookies on my mind, for today's Question of the Day......let's talk about cookies!

What are some of your favorite kinds of cookies?  (can be store bought, bakery, home baked, or other)

i'll start!

i love those oatmeal peanut butter cookies so much that i could eat them for dinner -- in fact, i've done that a few times!
peanut butter cookies can be so...dry tasting, but the oatmeal peanut butter cookies don't taste dry. another favorite of mine is chewy coconut cookies, they're buttery tasting and i like the coconut in them.

for store bought cookies, i love the Dare brand. their maple leaf creme cookies are incredible! i don't buy them often, because they're kind of expensive. i also like the Voortman brand cookies that my local wegmans sells in their bulk section -- but again, they're kind of expensive so i rarely buy them. lately i've been buying the vanilla sandwich cookies that Aldi sells, and i've found them to be very tasty!

it used to be that Freihofer's sold Hermit cookies, but they've been discontinued......
those were so good!!!

okay, now it's your turn!

Peek Freans used to make a coffee creme biscuit that I loved
but they discontinued it some years ago

I like most kinds of cookies except for Oreos. I used to like them but can't stand them anymore for some reason. Too sugary maybe. I tend to go for anything chocolate
Sometimes I'll go for a plain sugar cookie or something non-chocolate.

I think for work I'll make some peppermint crinkle cookies for the holidays. I made them once before and they were really good. It has chocolate and Nutella
I don't plan to make more than two dozen or so. Just going to give them to my co-worker, supervisor, the two guys, and maybe one other person who's a cookie addict

I like Toll House Cookies the best. Also peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies. Bus since I don't bake I have not had them in years. The bakery around here does not sell them. Them have the exact same products all the time. Nothing new. I don't like store brought cookies at all. They are nasty. Even the Oreos. Sometimes I will buy the cookies at BJ's bakery but again they sell the same thing year after year.

OH boy...I could write a book on cookies I love, but I'll try to keep it simple.  First and foremost, sugar cookies, cut into shapes, iced with royal icing in delightful patterns.  And gingerbread...men, houses, whatever.  I'd LOVE to be able to go to the annual Gingerbread House Expo in Ashville, NC this year, or any year, for that matter.  Chewy chocolate chip cookies.  I have a recipe for (don't gag...they're delightful) fruit cake cookies, that have all the good about fruit cake, and none of the bad.  And they're pretty.  Have to see if I can find that.

Store bought...well...Nutter Butters, Nilla Wafers, and those vanilla cream ones that have layers of a waffle-looking cookie-ish thing with vanilla cream in between...ya'll know what I'm talking about.  And animal crackers.  OH...and Teddy Grahams dipped in cream cheese frosting.  I can thank/blame my elder spawn for that little caloric addiction.

A better question would be what cookie do I not like? :) As long as they have a little crunch to them. I'm not a fan of soft cookies at all.

There's just so so many, mostly homemade:

Toll house
Oatmeal
Wedding cookies (snowball)
Pralines
Sugar cookies
Orange balls
Lemon squares
Chocolate drop cookies
Seven layer cookies
Christmas cookies with frosting and sprinkles
Oreos
Nutter butter (those make me go to sleep!)
Pecan sandies
Lemon cream sandwich
Little Debbie oatmeal cream pies

I'm sure I've forgotten a bunch. One time a neighbor brought some hommade Little Debbie Oatmeal cookies and they were TO DIE FOR - and from probably! When I asked for the recipe, she wouldn't say exactly! Grrrr!

For homemade it would be a tossup between Oatmeal Chocolate Chip and Peanut Blossoms

For store bought it would be Fig Newtons.  I don't know why I like them the best of store bought cookies, there probably aren't many that would say that they are a favorite.

For homemade cookies, I like Seven-layer Cookies the best. They are to die for, and with all that sugar, you probably will. I also love a butter cookie that I make for Christmas using the cookie press. I press them into tree shapes, dip them in white chocolate, and sprinkle with multi-colored beads.

I don't like store cookies very much except for Pecan Sandies and Chips Ahoy Chocolate Lovers chocolate chip cookies.

I love so many, depends on my mood though as to what I like best. I love Oreos - the thin ones in particular. I love Pecan Sandies. Fresh-made oatmeal raisin cookies. Grasshoppers (kinda like Thin Mints). OOoooh and those chocolate covered coconut cookies (can't remember the name now).

I'm not really into store bought cookies but I do like the fudge striped shortbread cookies and Reese's peanut butter cup Oreos. Otherwise I prefer my moms. She makes a really good batch of chewy oatmeal cranberry walnut coconut cookies. And they are hearty and filling. I love cookies with nuts so probably why I don't really like store bought.. she makes really good everything basically and chocolate chip walnut cookies or peanut butter walnut cookies. We usually make butter sugar cookies with the cookie press for the holidays and frost them. We don't frost each one though since she's diabetic so she has some when her blood sugar is low in the morning. I also love the cranberry sweets raspberry tea cookies. But I'll probably never see them again because my friend I'm not friends with any more always got them for me and I can't justify $12 for shipping for a small package. We could probably make our own.

My favorite homemade are chewy ginger cookies.  I like good old fashioned Toll House also.

Store bought: Milano's hands down. Deadly to have them in the house.

When I was a kid there were these cookies I really loved made by Nabisco; "Marshmallow Sandwiches" not to be confused with a Mallomar. These had no chocolate and there was a very thin layer of fruit spread on them.  SO GOOD

OMG LOVE these.  We have someone from Canada in our office and when he goes home he brings boxes of these to the office. I think there's a slight ingredient difference but maybe not.  These are about as addictive to me as Milano's.  I love everything maple.

A lot of cookies tastes weird to me now that they removed all transfat. Oreos and Chips Ahoy aren't the same anymore.

Though I've since gone gluten-free.. and Tate's Bakery gluten-free chocolate chip cookies.. OMG So yummy! I could eat the whole bag in one sitting (and I do.. oops)

Oatmeal Raisin

Snickerdoodle

Chocolate chip, with raisins

Chocolate/peanut (or butterscotch) chip

Peanut Butter (but I don't make them anymore because one of my kids tested positive for a mild peanut allergy)

These are my "must bakes" for Christmas:

Italian Chocolate Chip

Tea Tassies

Spiced sugar cookies (a soft, dark cookie made with molasses and spices)

Italian White Cookies

Italian Chocolate Cookies

Pizzelles

Store bought:

Oreos

Nutterbutters (which I occasionally get and hide and eat when the kids aren't around)

Cocoanut Dreams (the ones like the girl scouts Samoa cookies)

Fudge Stripes

I don't bake or buy cookies too often. They are too easy to get carried away with.

mmmmmm......shortbread cookies!!!

i still haven't ever had a snickerdoodle cookie.
however, i've been thinking about making a snickerdoodle cake sometime this fall -- made from scratch.

i try not to spend too much time looking at wegman's bulk Voortman cookies. i love them though!
