Monkey was originally diagnosed with taxoplasmosis back in August. Her eyes dilated like shark eyes, she lost her sight, she lost a lot of weight. She was on antibiotics and steroids for 3 weeks and the new vet in the office discontinued the antibiotics because she said she was recovered. We started doing her steroid every other day to wean her off. (Her eyes went back to normal, she could see, she was gaining weight.)
A week and a half later I had to take her back because she was getting sick again. Her right eye was dilated again and This time she had some respiratory issues, watery eyes, flapping her head, head tilt, and digging at her ears. I asked for my regular vet and she said monkey should have been on the antibiotics 4-6 weeks so we put her back on clindamycin twice a day. That seemed to help, but her eye wasn't getting better and she was still having ear issues and a head tilt so we went back to the daily steroid as well. When we would go for her rechecks I kept stressing that her ears seemed to still bother her and her right eye was dilated more than the left. They finally swabbed her ears and found puss in them but said the cytology report didn't show infection. They added ear drops to the list of meds. Her head tilt went away and she hasn't been digging as much, but she still flaps her head a lot and her eye is dilated.
They want me to wean her off the antibiotic and ear drops to see what happens. We are still doing her steroid once a day because they don't want us to stop everything all at once. I'm frustrated because her eye is still dilated and she's still flapping her head ears/shaking her head a lot and rubbing her head/ears on everything, but I feel like the vet will just dismiss it.
Is there something I should ask the vet about on her next recheck? I really think it's an inner ear infection and not the toxoplasmosis she originally had. (They blame everything on that, but if she did a full course of antibiotics for that I would think it's something else)
